Paul Dano\u2019s fellow actors are rushing to defend him after Quentin Tarantino called him the \u201cweakest f–king actor in SAG.\u201d <\/p>\n

Tarantino, 62, stirred up controversy on Tuesday when he slammed the actor\u2019s performance<\/a> in Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s There Will Be Blood during an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Paul“I am not saying he is giving a terrible performance,” said Tarantino of Dano’s work in ‘There Will Be Blood. “I am saying he\u2019s giving a non-entity performance.” Aldara Zarraoa\/Getty Images <\/p>\n

David Krumholtz, who appeared with Dano in The Studio earlier this year, quickly reacted to the insult. \u201cLet\u2019s face it. We are all Paul Dano today,\u201d wrote Krumholtz, 47, on Threads<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Little Miss Sunshine actor also got support from Disney stars Josh Gad and Simu Liu. Gad, 44, wrote on Threads<\/a>, \u201cNot sure who needs to hear this, but Paul Dano is one of the best actors of our time. Full stop.\u201d <\/p>\n

Liu, 36, tweeted simply, \u201cidk man I think Paul Dano is an incredible actor.\u201d <\/p>\n

The director\u2019s comments came during a profanity-laced podcast segment in which he was asked to name his favorite films of the 21st century. <\/p>\n

Tarantino said the 2007 film\u2014which stars Dano alongside Daniel Day-Lewis\u2014was his fifth favorite film of the century, but would be ranked higher were it not for Dano\u2019s performance. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy,\u201d Tarantino said of Dano, 41. \u201c[The film is] supposed to be a two-hander and it\u2019s not! \u2026You put [Day-Lewis] with the weakest f–king actor in SAG? The limpest d–k in the world?\u201d <\/p>\n

Dano has been nominated for four Screen Actors Guild awards, winning in 2007 for his work in Little Miss Sunshine. His role as identical twin brothers Paul and Eli Sunday in There Will Be Blood earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.<\/p>\n

Two of Dano\u2019s There Will Be Blood co-stars also stepped in to defend the actor. Dillon Freasier, who portrayed H.W. Plainview, the son of Daniel Day-Lewis\u2019 Daniel Plainview, told TMZ<\/a> on Wednesday that the film \u201cperfect\u201d and \u201ca work of art.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s that way because everyone was perfectly cast,\u201d added Freasier, 29. <\/p>\n

Colleen Foy, who portrayed Mary Sunday, the sister of Dano\u2019s identical twin characters, wrote on Threads<\/a> that Dano\u2019s \u201cincredible performance speaks for itself.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI sat behind Quentin Tarantino at the Cast & Crew screening and he was legit vibing with Paul\u2019s performance,\u201d wrote Foy. \u201cHis recent comments are incongruent with his reaction that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"FromDillon Freasier, who co-starred in ‘There Will Be Blood’ with Dano and Daniel Day-Lewis when he was just 11, said the film was “perfectly cast.” Dimitrios Kambouris\/WireImage <\/p>\n

However, Tarantino had another idea about who should have taken Dano\u2019s role. \u201c[Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister,\u201d he told Ellis on Tuesday. \u201cAustin Butler would have been wonderful in that role.\u201d <\/p>\n

Butler previously appeared in Tarantino\u2019s 2019 film Once Upon a Time\u2026 in Hollywood as Manson Family member Tex Watson. <\/p>\n

Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, who is currently writing the script for The Batman: Part II, was also quick to come to Dano\u2019s defense. <\/p>\n

Dano appeared as The Riddler in the 2022 first installment of The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson. However, the actor has not yet confirmed whether he will appear in the film\u2019s sequel, which is set to release in 2027.<\/p>\n

Tomlin\u2019s post also encouraged fans to watch Wildlife, Dano\u2019s 2018 directorial debut starring Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal. <\/p>\n

Dano wasn\u2019t the only actor to merit Tarantino\u2019s ire during his podcast appearance. The Kill Bill director went on to name two more stars he \u201ccan\u2019t stand\u201d: Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard. However, he added that Woody Allen\u2019s Midnight in Paris, which stars Wilson, was another of his favorite films.<\/p>\n
