OTTAWA \u2014 The Ottawa Senators<\/a> added another name to their injury list Thursday when Shane Pinto<\/a> was forced to leave in the first period of a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers<\/a> due to a lower-body injury.<\/p>\n

Pinto fell to the ice after being checked along the boards by New York centre Mika Zibanejad<\/a>. Pinto appeared to be in some discomfort as he skated back to the bench.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll know more (Friday),\u201d said head coach Travis Green<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m hoping it\u2019s not going to be too long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Already without injured defenceman Thomas Chabot<\/a>, the Senators also did not have forward Lars Eller<\/a> or defenceman Artem Zub<\/a> available against the Rangers.<\/p>\n

Chabot is on injured reserve while Eller and Zub are day to day.<\/p>\n

Pinto, meanwhile, has been one of Ottawa\u2019s best forwards this season with 12 goals and six assists over 26 games. His absence was noticeable.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou lose a player like that, the year he\u2019s having, how reliable he is to play against the other teams\u2019 top guys every night,\u201d said Senators forward Drake Batherson<\/a>. \u201cSo, we\u2019re hoping he\u2019s OK and it\u2019s not too bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senators forward Brady Tkachuk<\/a> missed 20 games this season due to a hand injury that required surgery. Ottawa fell to 1-3-0 since the captain returned to the lineup.<\/p>\n

The Senators are hoping to repeat the strong showing they had last December (9-3-1), which helped them build momentum heading into the second half of the season.<\/p>\n

After going 1-for-12 with the man advantage over the last five games, both Ottawa goals came on the power play. But overall, the Senators couldn\u2019t match the Rangers\u2019 steady play.<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely think there is some lapses at some points,\u201d said Tkachuk. \u201cThey pushed and in those parts of the game, I think we can learn a lot from (that). But I think that (in) the second half we got back to our game … and we learn and we get better because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Green agreed with Tkachuk\u2019s assessment and said he liked the way his team pushed back.<\/p>\n
