Jessie J<\/a> shared a meaningful moment with Kate Middleton<\/a> earlier this month, as the two embraced at the Royal Variety Performance on Nov. 19.<\/p>\n

The encounter was particularly poignant, as both the singer and Princess of Wales are recent cancer survivors. <\/p>\n

Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, opened up about the two\u2019s meeting in an interview with \u201cGood Morning America\u201d<\/a> on Friday. <\/p>\n

\u201cDid Princess Kate say anything to you, mom to mom?\u201d asked Maggie Rulli, foreign correspondent for ABC News. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe just said, \u2018Thank you, I know you\u2019ve gone through a tough time,\u2019\u201d Jessie J shared. \u201cI said, \u2018I know you have too.\u2019 I just said, \u2018I want to acknowledge that, mum to mum, cancer survivor to cancer survivor. I see you, and I feel you. Can I give you a hug?\u2019 She said, \u2018Of course you can.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

It is typically viewed as a breach of royal protocol<\/a> to touch a royal. The \u201cBang Bang\u201d singer added that she was just \u201cgrateful she received it in the way it was meant.\u201d <\/p>\n

Jessie J previously opened up about her sweet moment with the royal, saying that though she \u201cwas briefed not to\u201d hug Kate<\/a>, she \u201cjust saw a mom that has also gone through cancer publicly, and I just wanted to give her a hug.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was as simple as that I didn\u2019t see her as the Princess of Wales. I mean obviously I did \u2015 and I was respectful,\u201d the singer said on the U.K.\u2019s \u201cThis Morning\u201d show<\/a> earlier this week. \u201cI know the days that she has maybe gone through, and I just wanted to give her a hug \u2014 mom to mom, human to human.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate announced publicly in March 2024<\/a> that she had been diagnosed with cancer, though she has never clarified the type of cancer she has. In September 2024, the royal announced that she\u2019d completed chemotherapy. Just a few months later, she said that her cancer was in remission. <\/p>\n

Jessie J announced in June that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer<\/a> and was \u201cgoing to disappear for a bit\u201d to have surgery. <\/p>\n
