{"id":328412,"date":"2025-12-06T04:04:31","date_gmt":"2025-12-06T04:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/328412\/"},"modified":"2025-12-06T04:04:31","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T04:04:31","slug":"aroldis-chapman-rips-yankees-id-rather-retire-than-play-for-them-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/328412\/","title":{"rendered":"Aroldis Chapman rips Yankees &#8211; I&#8217;d rather retire than play for them again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oct 28, 2025, 09:01 AM ET<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"1c3e51f0-e619-be48-8aac-443cc62d5b44\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/30442\/aroldis-chapman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aroldis Chapman<\/a> ripped the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2b9cedf3-ce60-0bcf-fafe-8cd055255685\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/nyy\/new-york-yankees\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Yankees<\/a> in a podcast, saying he would &#8220;retire on the spot&#8221; before playing for them ever again.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman aired his grievances with the Yankees during an appearance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DQPFq0Hkjqc\/?igsh=aGZuNXJwaGV4bDcy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#8220;Swing Completo&#8221; podcast<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman, who played parts of seven seasons for New York from 2016 to 2022, was asked if he would ever consider rejoining the Yankees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No way, not even dead,&#8221; Chapman answered, as translated from Spanish. &#8220;If I were told that I was being traded to New York, I&#8217;d pack my things and go home. I&#8217;ll retire right on the spot if that happens. I&#8217;m not crazy. Never again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>Chapman was a three-time All-Star as the Yankees&#8217; closer and was the centerpiece of a bullpen that helped New York reach the postseason in five consecutive years from 2017 to 2021.<\/p>\n<p>But the hard-throwing left-hander struggled through a tumultuous 2022 season during which he was removed from the closer role, was sidelined for a month because of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/34605482\/new-york-yankees-get-aroldis-chapman-back-il-missed-tattoo-related-infection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a leg infection he sustained from a tattoo<\/a>, skipped a mandatory workout, and was ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/34760715\/aroldis-chapman-left-yankees-roster-missing-workout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">left off the Yankees&#8217; roster<\/a> for the American League Division Series.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman did not re-sign with the Yankees after the 2022 season and signed with the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"11a5df00-0945-35a5-66fe-a3a107975558\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/kc\/kansas-city-royals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Royals<\/a> in January 2023.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I dealt with a lot of disrespect [with the Yankees],&#8221; Chapman said. &#8220;I put up with a lot of things. I knew that they just wanted to find a way to get rid of me, but they didn&#8217;t know how. And I just dealt with it quietly, kept playing, and doing what I always do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chapman stressed that he did not have a problem with manager Aaron Boone of any of his teammates in New York, adding that his frustration was with the Yankees&#8217; &#8220;bosses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Aroldis Chapman was a three-time All-Star with the Yankees from 2017-2021.
