\n\tDonald Trump<\/a> presented this year\u2019s Kennedy Center honorees with their medals in an Oval Office ceremony on Saturday, but he also made some predictions of how the ceremony will do in the ratings and how he will do in hosting the event.<\/p>\n

\n\tNamely, Trump said he would do better than Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>, the late night host who has emceed multiple Oscar broadcasts.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe have never had a president hosting the awards before. This is the first,\u201d Trump told reporters.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m sure they\u2019ll give me great reviews, right? You know, they\u2019ll say he was horrible. He was terrible. It was a horrible situation. No, we\u2019ll do fine,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump then went on to say that he has \u201cwatched some of the people that host. Jimmy Kimmel was horrible, and some of these people. If I can\u2019t beat out Jimmy Kimmel in terms of talent, then I don\u2019t think I should be president.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel has long directed his biting humor at Trump, and the president has taken to social media to slam the ABC host and call for his firing. In September, after Kimmel made a joke referencing the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Trump\u2019s FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, warned stations that carried the late-night show. Two major station groups, Nexstar and Sinclair, pulled the show, and ABC then took it off the schedule. But the network reinstated Kimmel the next week, after a backlash.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the Oval Office ceremony, Trump also predicted that Sunday\u2019s show, which will be taped to air later in the month on CBS, \u201cwill be the highest rated show they\u2019ve ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019ve gotten some pretty good ratings, but there\u2019s nothing like what\u2019s going to happen tomorrow night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump skipped the Kennedy Center Honors<\/a> during his first term, after some of the honorees in 2017 said that they would boycott a White House reception that typically precedes the ceremony. <\/p>\n

\n\tBut just weeks after returning to office this year, Trump fired all of Joe Biden\u2019s appointees to the Kennedy Center board, ensuring that his own loyalists would dominate the arts institution\u2019s governance. That also ensured that Trump would be elected chair of the board. The previous president, Deborah Rutter, was ousted, replaced by Ric Grenell, who served as acting director of national intelligence in the first Trump term.<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump has said that he was \u201c98% involved\u201d in the selection of this year\u2019s slate of honorees: Sylvester Stallone, George Strait, Gloria Gaynor, KISS and Michael Crawford. In August, Trump said that he \u201cturned down plenty.\u201d \u201cThey were too woke. I had a couple of wokesters,\u201d he said. He blasted previous selections as including too many \u201cradical left lunatics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLater on Saturday, the honorees will be feted by Trump and others at a State Department ceremony. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe ceremony has previously been hosted by figures ranging from Queen Latifah to Walter Cronkite, with the president remaining in the Kennedy Center Opera House\u2019s presidential box.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn August, when Trump announced that he would host, he said, \u201cI\u2019ve been asked to host. I said, \u2018I\u2019m the president of the United States. Are you folls asking me to do that.\u2019 \u2018Sir, you\u2019ll get much higher ratings.\u2019 I said, \u2018I don\u2019t care. I\u2019m the president of the United States. I won\u2019t do it.\u2019 They said, \u2018Please.\u2019 And then [chief of staff] Susie Wiles said, \u2018Sir.
