\n\tThe boys<\/a> are back in town, one last time.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first trailer for The Boys arrived Saturday at CCXP in S\u00e3o Paulo \u2014 and things look more dire than ever for Billy Butcher and his crew, who after the events of the season four finale, are living in an America under a Homelander dictatorship. (And almost as bad, at least for this world\u2019s journalists, Ashley Barrett appears to Homelander\u2019s White House press secretary.) <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t be the first throwing your life away in a war, but you would be the first saving the world doing it,\u201d Karl Urban\u2019s Butcher tells his crew in the trailer.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe show has a new release date of April 8, 2026, when the first two episodes bow, leading up to a series finale on May 20, 2026.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series has become a flagship property for Prime, spawning the spinoff Gen V<\/a> and being at the center of the zeitgeist for the streamer. It also has history of unintentionally being prescient, mirroring real-life events like the Jan. 6 riots, for example. Creator Erik Kripke recalled to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> last year how he and executive producers pitched the show in 2016, amid the political rise of Donald Trump, something that altered the course of The Boys.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe just wanted to do a very realistic version of a superhero show, one where superheroes are celebrities behaving badly. Trump was the, \u2018He\u2019s not really getting the nomination, is he?\u2019 guy,\u201d he recalled. \u201cWhen he got elected, we had a metaphor that said more about the current world. Suddenly, we were telling a story about the intersection of celebrity and authoritarianism and how social media and entertainment are used to sell fascism. We\u2019re right in the eye of the storm. And once we realized that, I just felt an obligation to run in that direction as far as we could.\u201d<\/p>\n
