Being up for three awards was proof for Jesse Genns and his band that they are beginning to shine like the stars they are.<\/p>\n
Swift Current musician Jesse Genns says this year\u2019s Saskatchewan Country Music Awards were a major milestone for both him and his fellow band members.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was pretty unreal,\u201d said Genns. \u201cGetting a little bit of recognition that way means a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Genns\u2019 song\u00a0Clovers, a collaboration with bassist Marcus Braun, received a nomination for Song of the Year. Braun was nominated for Bass Player of the Year, and Genns earned a nomination for Emerging Artist of the Year.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving Marcus collab on\u00a0Clovers\u00a0has just been a blessing,\u201d said Genns. \u201cHaving him as part of my band has been incredible. I can’t speak highly enough of all my bandmates. They sure know how to make a guy sound a lot better than maybe he actually is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Genns says the song came together quickly ahead of the Swift Current Broncos\u2019 annual memorial game honouring the four players killed in a 2021 crash.<\/p>\n
\u201cMarcus pitched me the song during a rehearsal,\u201d he said. \u201cI pitched it to the Broncos, and they called me on Dec. 22, saying they\u2019d love to use it. I looked at Marcus and said, Well, they want to use it, but we don\u2019t have it recorded yet. So we ran to the studio as fast as we could and hammered it out in less than a week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Genns says he\u2019s grateful for the support he has received and excited for what comes next.<\/p>\n
