Andy Murray<\/a> has revealed that his eldest daughter struggled the most when he ended his professional tennis career last summer<\/a>. Retiring from the game wasn\u2019t just an adjustment for Murray, who has now set himself a quest to become a scratch golfer. His family also had to get used to having him around.<\/p>\n

The former world No. 1 and his wife, Kim, have four children, but welcomed their first child, Sophia, in 2016, while Murray was still very active on the tour. And the 38-year-old has now explained that it made things difficult when he finally hung up his racket.<\/p>\n

During an appearance on the Tennis Podcast, Murray was asked whether his family had to adjust to having him at home more in retirement. \u201cI think so. Particularly my eldest daughter,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rest of them not so much because, yes I was still playing at the end, but there was also quite a few periods where I was at home a lot through the injuries and things, so I wasn\u2019t on the road quite as much. Whereas with my eldest daughter, it was, I think, quite a big change for her, a big adjustment.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was finding it hard if I had to be the one to take her to school or to pick her up and take her to a club or being around her friends and things like that, and that\u2019s something that she certainly was finding difficult, and if I was getting any attention when I was with her, she really struggled with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray said farewell at the Olympics last summer, reaching the doubles quarter-finals alongside Dan Evans before he was sent into retirement. It\u2019s now been 16 months since the three-time Grand Slam champion bowed out of the game, and it appears that Sophia has only just gotten over the \u201cembarrassment\u201d of having Murray accompany her in public.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cAnd it was only last week when I picked her up from netball, and it was the first time she actually walked next to me, back to the car. I said to her, I was like, \u2018You know that\u2019s the first time you\u2019ve ever\u2026\u2019 and she sort of smiled at me, and I think now is a bit less embarrassed by me – for now! I\u2019m sure in a few years, that\u2019s coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray enjoyed the best year of his career when Sophia was born in 2016, winning his second Wimbledon<\/a> title and second Olympic gold medal. He picked up seven other titles in 2016, reached the top of the rankings for the first time, and secured the year-end No. 1 spot.<\/p>\n

Now, his life looks very different.
