{"id":330672,"date":"2025-12-07T16:56:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T16:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/330672\/"},"modified":"2025-12-07T16:56:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T16:56:09","slug":"all-the-sacrifices-were-worth-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/330672\/","title":{"rendered":"All the sacrifices were worth it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Lando Norris\u2019 emotional parents said his Formula 1 world championship win made all the sacrifices worth it, while Carlos Sainz believes the British driver has proven you can win the title and be a \u201cnice guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Norris got over the line to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/47151000\/lando-norris-wins-first-f1-world-title-championship-2025-abu-dhabi-mclaren\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">clinch his maiden crown<\/a> after finishing third in Abu Dhabi to see off Max Verstappen &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/47189338\/lando-norris-wins-f1-world-title-max-verstappen-wins-abu-dhabi-gp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">who won the race &#8212; by just two points<\/a> in the championship standings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 26-year-old won seven races throughout the season and delivered a consistent second half of the campaign to reel in teammate Oscar Piastri, who finished 13 points adrift, before fending off the resurgent four-time champion Verstappen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/f1\/story\/_\/id\/47235062\/emotional-lando-norris-celebrates-1st-f1-world-title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Norris was in tears on the track<\/a> after his triumph was confirmed and shared an emotional embrace with father Adam and mother Cisca, as well as girlfriend Margarida Corceiro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">His mother Cisca told Sky Sports: \u201c[I am] emotionally drained, happy for the team, the family, the fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cA lot of sacrifices. I kind of, when Lando was seven he started karting, by eight he was competing together with his brother Ollie and it took my two boys in one direction and my two girls in another.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI missed Lando and Ollie growing up as a kid, suddenly playing with a tractor naked in the garden was done! And I missed that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is amazing. Those last laps took ages! You never know until the race is done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">His father Adam added: \u201cI\u2019ve done 400 races now following Lando. A lot of travelling around the world to go-kart tracks. A weird and wonderful journey but having fun, a lot of fun. Good to enjoy the journey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe loved it more than everyone else so it was never painful but it was hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Norris has spent his entire career with McLaren, winning the title in his seventh season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sainz was thrilled for his former teammate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Spaniard, now at Williams, told Sky Sports: \u201c[I\u2019m] very happy for him as a driver, he has always been extremely quick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAlong the way he has developed a lot his skills and now he is world champion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHappy for him as a person because he is a driver who doesn\u2019t always follow the typical stereotype of world champion, he has stayed true to himself. He is very open and honest about his own struggles. He has proven to everyone that you can be world champion while being a nice guy. You don\u2019t need to be ruthless or \u2018bad-ass\u2019 to be world champion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHappy for him, I hope he stays the same, I hope he keeps being himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI will be in his ear if he is getting a bit show-off!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Norris becomes the 11th different British driver to become world champion, with Jenson Button the previous man to add his name to that list in 2009.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Lewis Hamilton won his first world championship with McLaren in 2008, before clinching six more with Mercedes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Hamilton told Sky Sports: \u201cJust really happy for Lando. Winning your first is really special, the UK continues to pump out great drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Damon Hill, who won the title with Williams in 1996, told the BBC: \u201cI\u2019m very happy, Lando Norris was lost for words in the cockpit as he was going around and he did a fantastic job of holding his emotions at bay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cYou can\u2019t be emotional as a racing driver, but it doesn\u2019t disappear, they don\u2019t have no emotions, they have to put them in a little closet somewhere inside their heart and their soul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mercedes driver and compatriot George Russell wrote on X: \u201cCongrats mate, you\u2019ve driven insane this year!!! Came a long way since these days, enjoy the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Bristol City sent their congratulations, writing on X: \u201cBristol born. One of our own. World Champion. Congratulations Lando.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer also wrote on X: \u201cCongratulations Lando Norris, Britain\u2019s new F1 champion!
