A\u00a0former\u00a0Hope\u00a0Secondary\u00a0graduate\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0reading\u00a0her\u00a0book\u00a0for\u00a0Storytime\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sarah Van Reeuwyk is joining the popular summer event and will be reading her book\u00a0Choosing Makes Me Happy\u00a0in Memorial Park on July 22. Running from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., children and their parents can join Van Reeuwyk and learn all about executive function and how to become better at making decisions in their lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The book, which Van Reeuwyk\u00a0published in 2023, is an interactive children’s book that\u00a0follows Van Reeuwyk\u2019s three year-old daughter as she makes choices throughout the day.\u00a0Both kids and their parents can follow along with the story which focuses on executive function and how to practice it.<\/p>\n
Specifically, Van Reeuwyk created the book to give\u00a0children a resource\u00a0for\u00a0developing their decision making skills and building up their confidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Her story was\u00a0inspired by watching the adults she taught in 2022, while working as a designated coach, struggle with executive function or\u00a0their ability to juggle multiple tasks,\u00a0plan, focus, and remember. After helping them develop these skills, Van Reeuwyk realized that her experience and skills might help\u00a0children might benefit from.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Raised in Hope, Van Reeuwyk\u00a0is the Branch Manager at Prospera Credit Union. This is her first book and she hopes to write more in the future. \u00a0<\/p>\n
She is one of seven people who are spending their Tuesday mornings, until Aug. 12, reading stories aloud to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Upcoming readers and books are Teresa Williams reading 123’s of Kindness, Naomi Barrettara reading The Bear Snores On, and Caris Nickerson reading Sleepy Sheepy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Storytime in the Park is also pairing this year’s\u00a0reading with fun rhythm activities to get the audience moving and grooving. Upcoming\u00a0sessions will be\u00a0hosted by\u00a0Barrettara’s Mountain Melodies and the Family Resource Centre Staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n
