Apple\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/09\/04\/ios-26-release-what-to-know-about-apples-radical-new-iphone-update\/\" data-ga-track=\"InternalLink:https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/09\/04\/ios-26-release-what-to-know-about-apples-radical-new-iphone-update\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"iOS 26\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">iOS 26<\/a> has been out for nearly three months now, so there are a bunch of reasons to upgrade to iOS 26.2 from iOS 18 when it lands.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three very good reasons to update to iOS 26.2 if you are still on iOS 18.<\/p>\n<p>Apple Is Now Recommending Updating To iOS 26<\/p>\n<p>One very good reason to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/11\/14\/ios-261-or-ios-1872-heres-which-new-iphone-update-to-choose\/\" data-ga-track=\"InternalLink:https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/11\/14\/ios-261-or-ios-1872-heres-which-new-iphone-update-to-choose\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"upgrade from iOS 18 to iOS 26.2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">upgrade from iOS 18 to iOS 26.2<\/a> is that Apple itself is recommending iPhone users update to its iOS 26 software. That\u2019s according to a new report on Apple focused site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2025\/12\/02\/apple-pushes-ios-18-users-to-ios-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2025\/12\/02\/apple-pushes-ios-18-users-to-ios-26\/\" aria-label=\"MacRumors\">MacRumors<\/a>, which describes how the iPhone maker is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/11\/05\/ios-261-apple-just-gave-iphone-users-56-reasons-to-update-now\/\" data-ga-track=\"InternalLink:https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/11\/05\/ios-261-apple-just-gave-iphone-users-56-reasons-to-update-now\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"making iOS 26.1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">making iOS 26.1<\/a> the recommended iOS update in the Settings app. <\/p>\n<p>This is a big change as since September, iOS 26 has merely been displayed as an optional upgrade, with iOS 18 users seeing the older  iOS update \u201cfront and center,\u201d according to the site.<\/p>\n<p>The move means Apple must be confident any early bugs are being squashed and that iOS 26.1 is working well. By iOS 26.2, performance should be even better.<\/p>\n<p>Apple Won\u2019t Support iOS 18 For Long \u2014 And iOS 26.2 Will be More Secure<\/p>\n<p>After releasing a new piece of software \u2014 in this case iOS 26 \u2014 Apple continues to update the older version, currently iOS 18, with security updates. But this only happens for a limited period and that time will be coming to an end soon. <\/p>\n<p>After this, Apple will update iOS 18 with security fixes for older devices that don\u2019t run iOS 26. If your iPhone can run iOS 26, you will need to upgrade to stay secure. It\u2019s possible this will happen with iOS 26.2, which could be why Apple is pushing iOS 26.1 now. <\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s iOS 26.2 Comes With A Bunch Of Cool New iPhone Features<\/p>\n<p>Apple\u2019s iOS 26.2 will add to new features released in iOS 26, including the wonderful Call Screening \u2014 a useful tool that I use on my iPhone now. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/10\/29\/ios-261-game-changing-new-iphone-security-feature-is-about-to-land\/\" data-ga-track=\"InternalLink:https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kateoflahertyuk\/2025\/10\/29\/ios-261-game-changing-new-iphone-security-feature-is-about-to-land\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Background Security Improvements\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Background Security Improvements<\/a> in iOS 26.1 make your iPhone more secure.<\/p>\n<p>In iOS 26.2, Apple will add improvements to Enhanced Safety Alerts, as well as new options for the controversial Liquid Glass feature, Podcast enhancements, offline lyric support in Apple Music, sleep score revisions, alarms for reminders and AirPods Live Translation in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>All these features mean now could be the time to upgrade from iOS 18 to iOS 26.2.
