I was like, &#8216;What&#8217;s going on, dude?&#8217; He goes, &#8216;Look, George, I looked everywhere for Fuji apples. I can&#8217;t find them anywhere.&#8217; Somebody had asked me at some point, do I want anything in my trailer to eat? And I said maybe some apples. There&#8217;s some actors that are literally &#8216;I only eat green M&amp;M&#8217;s&#8217; kind of bulls&#8212;. I grew up in Kentucky \u2013 we try to stay out of trailers,&#8221; he joked. &#8220;That&#8217;s not the end all and be all, [me] in a double wide on the set.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Over his decades-long career, the two-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/entertainment\/events\/oscars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Oscar winner<\/a> has credited his Kentucky roots with helping him stay humble in Hollywood.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born in Lexington, Kentucky, Clooney is the son of TV journalist Nick Clooney and former beauty queen Nina Bruce Warren. Clooney has previously shared that he and his siblings spent summers earning modest wages while working on their grandparents&#8217; tobacco farm in rural Kentucky. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was a tobacco farmer. I cut tobacco for $3.30 an hour, and that&#8217;s okay,&#8221; Clooney told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/george-clooney-boys-in-the-boat-movie-premiere?srsltid=AfmBOoqPzc7gWq6-QigjE3O8mgk8MseOPXpiXAslA0rsYaMOT1R9-NcT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vanity Fair in 2023.<\/a> &#8220;That&#8217;s how you made a living. We didn&#8217;t have money, but nobody had money. Nobody thought we were poor. We were all just getting through the day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During a joint appearance on GQ&#8217;s &#8220;Epic Conversations&#8221; series with his &#8220;Jay Kelly&#8221; co-star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/adam-sandler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Adam Sandler<\/a>, Clooney recalled that cutting tobacco was how he earned money from &#8220;the time I was about 13 to 18.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennessean.com\/story\/life\/2019\/03\/19\/george-clooney-wife-amal-twins-workhuman-nashville\/3203887002\/?gnt-cfr=1&amp;gca-cat=p&amp;gca-uir=true&amp;gca-epti=z115337d00----v115337d--59--b--59--&amp;gca-ft=140&amp;gca-ds=sophi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the Tennessean<\/a> in 2019, Clooney recalled his childhood in the small town of Augusta, Kentucky, which had a population of about 1,100 at the time. (Rodin Eckenroth\/Getty)<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Ocean&#8217;s Eleven&#8221; star remembered that he first discovered his passion for acting when his cousin Miguel Ferrer, the son of his aunt, legendary singer and actress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/george-clooneys-late-aunt-rosemary-clooney-struggled-to-live-with-husband-jose-ferrer-but-later-enjoyed-a-joyous-comeback\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rosemary Clooney,<\/a> helped him get a role as an extra on a production filming in Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Miguel, my first cousin, came to Kentucky due to a horse racing movie and I was walking horses at River Downs, which was kind of an old beat-up racetrack near Cincinnati, and they were gonna go down to Keeneland, which is a beautiful one in Lexington, to shoot,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And he got me a part as an extra,&#8221; Clooney continued. &#8220;And all of a sudden, I&#8217;m on a set and it was exciting and fun. (Reuters)<\/p>\n<p>Clooney went on to share Nick&#8217;s reaction when he told his parents that he had decided to pursue a career in acting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I remember walking in to tell my mom and dad that I was leaving college and I was gonna go <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/entertainment\/how-were-you-discovered\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">to California to be an actor<\/a>. And my dad was like, &#8216;You&#8217;re an idiot,'&#8221; he recalled. \u00a0&#8220;He was p&#8212;&#8211; &#8217;cause he wanted me to get an education.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He also knew how hard it was,&#8221; Clooney continued. &#8220;I remember one point he said, &#8216;I don&#8217;t think you have the smarts to be an actor.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And now you realize that&#8217;s really not a prerequisite,&#8221; he added with a laugh.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clooney has previously said though he enjoyed living in a tight-knit community, he was desperate to leave farm life behind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I knew one thing when I left Kentucky, which was I didn&#8217;t want to be a tobacco cutter,&#8221; he told <a href=\"https:\/\/okmagazine.com\/exclusives\/george-clooney-interview-midnight-sky-role-that-got-away\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">OK magazine<\/a> in 2020. &#8220;So everything on top of that has been gravy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/george-clooney-and-clinton.jpg\" alt=\"Actor George Clooney arrives on the red carpet for the film &quot;Suburbicon&quot; at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), in Toronto, Canada, September 9, 2017. (Reuters)<\/p>\n<p>However, Clooney has acknowledged that he developed a strong work ethic and humility due to his blue-collar background, which helped him during his years of struggling in Hollywood before finding success.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/george-clooney-claims-hes-never-argument-wife-11-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">GEORGE CLOONEY CLAIMS HE&#8217;S NEVER HAD AN ARGUMENT WITH WIFE OF 10 YEARS\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting, Clooney stayed with Rosemary before moving in with his friend, actor Thom Mathews, where he lived for eight months while sleeping on a mattress on the floor of a closet.<\/p>\n<p>Clooney worked in construction to make ends meet and appeared in guest roles on television series and a series of failed TV pilots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While speaking with USA Today, Clooney remembered numerous failed auditions, including a reading for Francis Ford Coppola after which he learned that the &#8220;The Godfather&#8221; director believed he was drunk.<\/p>\n<p>After 12 years, Clooney found fame at the age of 33 in 1994 when he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/george-clooney-says-hes-still-close-with-er-costars-that-was-a-job-of-a-lifetime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">cast in &#8220;ER.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s late in Hollywood life to get successful,&#8221; Clooney said. &#8220;I&#8217;d failed so many times. Some people, when they get successful, punish everyone. Others, like George, are grateful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;George has set a really wonderful example of not becoming a jerk movie star,&#8221; Clooney&#8217;s &#8220;ER&#8221; co-star Anthony Edwards said. &#8220;He\u2019s not ego-tripping. He is so solid within himself that he hasn\u2019t changed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Clooney shared a piece of advice from Nick that helped him stay grounded in Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My dad was probably the best for me about understanding the basic law of show business, which is that you\u2019re never as bad as they say you are when they say you\u2019re bad, and you\u2019re never as good as they say you are when they say you\u2019re good. But now, for them, it\u2019s like \u2013 they\u2019re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. I don\u2019t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi.
