The nominations for the Golden Globes 2026<\/a> were announced earlier today (December 8), with Sydney Sweeney<\/a> one of the most high-profile snubs.<\/p>\n

Sweeney\u2019s Christy, in which she plays the titular boxer Christy Martin, didn\u2019t receive any nominations. The biopic was released in cinemas on November 7, but became one of the biggest movie flops of all time<\/a> after failing to break into the top 10 at the box office in its opening weekend.<\/p>\n

On social media, many users weren\u2019t surprised about the movie\u2019s failure to receive any Golden Globes nominations, following its underwhelming critical and commercial reaction.<\/p>\n

The snub came days after Sweeney addressed the American Eagle ad controversy<\/a> she found herself embroiled in earlier this year. The campaign, \u2018Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans\u2019, proved controversial over the summer<\/a> after some social media users alleged that the pun on \u201cjeans\u201d and \u201cgenes\u201d being part of an advertising campaign with a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white woman promoted eugenics and white supremacy.<\/p>\n

In response, she told People<\/a> that she \u201cleads with kindness\u201d and decided to address the controversy to clarify her stance. \u201cAnyone who knows me knows that I\u2019m always trying to bring people together. I\u2019m against hate and divisiveness,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sweeney\u2019s next movie, The Housemaid<\/a>, is out on December 19 in the US and three days later in the UK. She stars as a housemaid who starts working for a wealthy couple \u2013\u00a0played by Amanda Seyfried<\/a> and Brandon Sklenar \u2013\u00a0and their family, before uncovering dark secrets while at work.<\/p>\n

And Sweeney wasn\u2019t the only big name to miss out on Golden Globes nominations. Among those also to be ignored were Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a>, though her movie Marty Supreme<\/a> is up for Best Picture \u2013\u00a0Musical\/Comedy, Jennifer Lopez<\/a> in Kiss Of The Spider Woman and Hugh Jackman<\/a> in Song Sung Blue<\/a>, though Kate Hudson is up for Best Female Actor \u2013\u00a0Musical\/Comedy for her role in the drama.<\/p>\n

Wicked: For Good<\/a>, meanwhile, received five nominations but missed out on Best Picture and Best Director.<\/p>\n

The movies to receive the most nominations were One Battle After Another<\/a> with nine, Sentimental Value with eight, and Sinners<\/a> with seven. In terms of TV shows, The White Lotus<\/a> led the way with six, while Adolescence<\/a> got five and Only Murders In The Building<\/a> and Severance<\/a> got four apiece \u2013\u00a0check out the full list of nominations here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the nominations ceremony, Marlon Wayans was criticised for \u201cbutchering\u201d the names of those up for awards next year<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 majorly mispronouncing names including\u00a0Ludwig G\u00f6ransson<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Elle Fanning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Golden Globes 2026 will again be hosted by Nikki Glaser, and the ceremony is set to take place on January 11.<\/p>\n
