It\u2019s tough to say the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> should move on from any of their top existing players on the current roster who aren\u2019t free agents, but anything is possible in Major League Baseball.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There remains uncertainty about what the Phillies truly want to do with their payroll, but according to the latest from Matt Gelb of The Athletic, it sounds like it might be an issue this winter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Gelb, that\u2019s why somebody like Matt Strahm could be available.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why league sources said the Phillies have entertained potential trade proposals for Matt Strahm, one of the most effective lefty relievers in MLB over the past few seasons. He\u2019ll make $7.5 million in 2026 \u2014 again not a large sum but meaningful if the Phillies can pair it with other savings to redeploy into their payroll.<\/p>\n

\u201cBohm and Strahm would be the two realistic trade candidates most likely to fetch the Phillies something useful in return, while providing financial relief,\u201d he wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, Strahm has been one of the more consistent arms in the Phillies\u2019 bullpen, even helping them save games at times.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the 2024 campaign, he was as good as any left-hander in baseball, posting a 1.87 ERA while striking out 79 hitters in 62.2 innings.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t as dominant throughout the 2025 campaign, but he still posted a 2.95 ERA and struck out 70 hitters in 62.1 innings.<\/p>\n

Strahm would be one of the better relievers moved in baseball this winter if the Phillies decide to go in that direction.<\/p>\n
