The Orioles made a strong push for Schwarber, but now shift their focus elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore is pivoting to free-agent first baseman <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnaut.com\/tag\/pete-alonso\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Pete Alonso;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Pete Alonso<\/a>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebanner.com\/sports\/orioles-mlb\/orioles-winter-meetings-pete-alonso-pitching-FPDKMYX7GVAJTNOVGEAGSSGZOA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:reported by the Baltimore Banner\u2019s Andy Kostka;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">reported by the Baltimore Banner\u2019s Andy Kostka<\/a>. The Orioles are expected to have a lot of competition for Alonso\u2019s services, but the organization remains committed to signing a top batter and pitcher from free agency.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Alonso hit 38 home runs and drove in 126 runs over 162 games. It marked the fourth straight season that Alonso played in 150-plus games. The market for the free agent first baseman wasn\u2019t strong last offseason, but with several teams looking for power, he should earn a major contract this winter.<\/p>\n<p>The Orioles don\u2019t necessarily need another position player, but Alonso represents a significant upgrade at first base. In fact, he would become the best hitter in the entire starting lineup.
