{"id":335389,"date":"2025-12-09T21:41:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T21:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/335389\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T21:41:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T21:41:06","slug":"toronto-bar-accused-of-purchasing-alcohol-stolen-from-lcbo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/335389\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto bar accused of purchasing alcohol stolen from LCBO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The owner and manager of a bar in south Etobicoke, Ont., are accused of repeatedly buying stolen liquor to sell to their patrons and for personal use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/agco-moves-to-revoke-toronto-bar-southside-johnny-s-licence-for-repeated-purchase-of-stolen-liquor-824917370.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/agco-moves-to-revoke-toronto-bar-southside-johnny-s-licence-for-repeated-purchase-of-stolen-liquor-824917370.html\">announced on Tuesday<\/a> that it has issued a Notice of Proposal to revoke the liquor license of Southside Johnny\u2019s Bar and Grill on Lake Shore Boulevard West, just east of Browns Line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The regulator said their investigation determined that the \u201clicensee and a manager were repeatedly and knowingly involved in the purchase of stolen liquor for use at their bar, as well as for personal use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The AGCO\u2019s investigation, which was conducted with police, found that the liquor was stolen from a nearby LCBO store and that the products were then allegedly stored at the bar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It is further alleged that the contents of some larger bottles were poured into smaller ones to fit the bar\u2019s dispensing system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cPurchasing stolen liquor is a serious breach of integrity that not only violates the law but compromises public safety and introduces illegal goods into Ontario\u2019s regulated alcohol market,\u201d Dr. Karin Schnarr, AGCO\u2019s CEO and registrar, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cOntarians can trust the AGCO to continue holding licensees accountable for complying with all regulatory requirements that help make a safe and responsible marketplace for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The AGCO said the bar\u2019s owner can appeal the notice to the Licence Appeal Tribunal within 15 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The owner and manager of a bar in south Etobicoke, Ont., are accused of repeatedly buying stolen liquor&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":335390,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[712,45,49,48],"class_list":{"0":"post-335389","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-business","8":"tag-apple-news","9":"tag-business","10":"tag-ca","11":"tag-canada"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/335389","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=335389"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/335389\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/335390"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=335389"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=335389"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=335389"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
