Wendy Williams\u2019s<\/a> lawyer, Joe Tacopina, has claimed that her conservatorship is officially coming to an end.<\/p>\n

The former TV host, 61, was first placed into a guardianship, <\/a>with Sabrina Morrissey appointed as her court-ordered guardian, in 2022, to protect Williams from financial abuse as her bank felt she was being exploited<\/a>. She was later diagnosed<\/a> with frontotemporal dementia and progressive aphasia the following year, a diagnosis Williams has publicly denied.<\/p>\n

Now, Tacopina has claimed that Williams will be \u201cout\u201d of the conservatorship by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Williams] does not have frontotemporal dementia, so that should be game, set, match,\u201d the attorney said during an interview with ABC\u2019s Nightline<\/a>, published Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe plan is this: there are guardianship attorneys, and we\u2019re watching and waiting, and they\u2019ve assured Wendy by year\u2019s end she\u2019ll be out of guardianship,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Tacopina\u2019s comments come one month after TMZ<\/a> reported that Williams underwent a series of medical tests in New York City, with a neurologist determining that her frontotemporal dementia diagnosis was inaccurate.<\/p>\n

Frontotemporal dementia<\/a> \u2014 which is the condition actor Bruce Willis has<\/a> \u2014 mainly affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, which are associated with personality, behavior, and language, as noted by the Mayo Clinic.<\/a> Symptoms can include difficulty speaking, loss of inhibition, muscle weakness, tremor, or trouble walking.<\/p>\n

Williams has previously spoken about her desire to end the conservatorship. During a pre-taped interview on The View, which aired in March, she discussed a hospital visit<\/a> that took place after she issued a cry for help to paparazzi<\/a> from the assisted living facility where she was staying.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was having a little agita,\u201d she told the hosts. \u201cLook, where I live, at that memory unit on this floor, you know, I just needed a breath of fresh air. I needed to see the doctors. So that\u2019s why I went to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides getting some \u201cblood drawn for my thyroid,\u201d Williams said that she passed a cognitive test \u201cwith flying colors,\u201d which she said proved she no longer needed a conservatorship. \u201cIt was my choice to get an independent evaluation on my incapacitation, which I don\u2019t have it,\u201d she exclaimed. \u201cHow dare they say I have incapacitation?! I do not.\u201d<\/p>\n

In January, she also denied being \u201ccognitively impaired,\u201d while comparing the care facility she\u2019s living in to a \u201cprison.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am definitely isolated. To talk to these people who live here, that is not my cup of tea… I\u2019m in this place where the people are in their Nineties and their Eighties and their Seventies\u2026 There\u2019s something wrong with these people here on this floor,\u201d she said at the time, while calling into The Breakfast Club radio show<\/p>\n

Williams is best known for her eponymously titled chat show, The Wendy Williams Show, which she hosted from 2008 to 2021. She stepped away as host due to medical issues, with numerous guest hosts filling in.
