{"id":336098,"date":"2025-12-10T05:06:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T05:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/336098\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T05:06:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T05:06:09","slug":"chinas-guangdong-targets-doubling-gdp-by-2035-despite-slowing-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/336098\/","title":{"rendered":"China\u2019s Guangdong targets doubling GDP by 2035 despite slowing growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Guangdong, China\u2019s <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3271935\/chinas-guangdong-once-major-economic-driver-lags-national-growth-average?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">largest provincial economy<\/a>, has vowed to double its economy by 2035 from 2022 levels, in line with the central government\u2019s target of becoming a medium-level developed country by that year.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cLooking ahead, from the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party (in 2022) to 2035, Guangdong aims to achieve socialist modernisation and build a modern, new Guangdong within 13 years,\u201d provincial authorities said in their five-year plan proposals released on Monday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cBy that time, the province\u2019s total economic output will have doubled, and regional per capita gross domestic product will reach the level of moderately developed countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Guangdong\u2019s GDP in 2022 stood at about 13 trillion yuan (US$1.84 trillion). Doubling that figure by 2035 would bring it to about 26 trillion yuan, equivalent to the world\u2019s seventh-largest economy today \u2013 ahead of France and behind the UK.<\/p>\n<p>To reach that goal, Guangdong would need to sustain average annual growth of more than 5 per cent over the next decade \u2013 well above its current pace.
