{"id":33872,"date":"2025-07-30T08:21:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T08:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/33872\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T08:21:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T08:21:08","slug":"the-antlers-announce-first-album-in-four-years-blight-with-brooding-new-single-carnage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/33872\/","title":{"rendered":"The Antlers announce first album in four years &#8216;Blight&#8217; with brooding new single &#8216;Carnage&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-antlers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Antlers<\/a> have returned with news of \u2018Blight\u2019, their first album in four years\u00a0 \u2013\u00a0listen to lead single \u2018Carnage\u2019 below.<\/p>\n<p>The New York duo, currently comprising singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Peter Silberman and drummer Michael Lerner, will release the album on October 10 via Transgressive Records, and it\u2019s available to pre-order here.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Carnage\u2019 is a brooding slow burner, starting off mellow before erupting around Lerner\u2019s drums and then descending into fuzz, with hard-hitting lyrics describing violence against animals encountered on a road trip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarnage\u2019 is a song about a kind of violence we rarely acknowledge \u2014 violence not born of cruelty, but of convenience,\u201d said Silberman of the track. \u201cInnocent creatures are swept up in the path of destruction as their world collides with ours, and we barely notice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Check the single out here:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Following the release of their sixth album, \u2018Green To Gold\u2019, in 2021, the band shared a selection of standalone singles. Silberman\u2019s ambient supergroup side project, Cowboy Sadness, released an album last year, too.<\/p>\n<p>After the warmer, folk-infused \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/the-antlers-announce-their-first-new-album-in-seven-years-green-to-gold-2855685\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Green To Gold<\/a>\u2019, \u2018Blight\u2019 is set to take a look at human wastefulness and devastation with more direct lyrics over a variety of sounds. It was recorded over the course of a few years in Silberman\u2019s New York home studio at the edge of a vast hayfield.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo much of the record was conceived while walking these massive fields,\u201d Silberman explained. \u201cI felt like I was wandering around an abandoned planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThe consequences of accelerating technology and environmental neglect feel imminent; that sense of urgency made me want to speak more candidly.
