SIU has been notified after officers responded to a stabbing call in Mississauga Thursday afternoon, which ended with an officer-involved shooting. <\/p>\n

A 19-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a family member is dead after being shot by police in Mississauga on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Peel police initially said they were called to a home on Greensboro Drive in the area of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Britannia Road<\/a> at 2:30 p.m. for a stabbing.<\/p>\n

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate, an injured 39-year-old man was seeking help at a neighbour\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

Police later learned that the man had been stabbed by a family member in their residence, the SIU said. The victim was soon taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n

The SIU said tactical and K9 officers attended the victim\u2019s home and attempted to negotiate with a 19-year-old man believed to be responsible for the stabbing.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers entered the residence, there was an interaction, a conducted energy weapon was discharged, and the man was shot,\u201d the SIU said.<\/a><\/p>\n

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.<\/p>\n

The SIU said it has assigned three investigators and three forensic investigators to the case, and a post-mortem is being scheduled.<\/p>\n

No subject official has been designated.<\/p>\n
