PembinaValleyOnline.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s an exciting time at Boundary Trails Health Centre (BTHC).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On December 9th, the BTHC Foundation presented Southern Health-Sant\u00e9 Sud, the region&#8217;s service delivery organization that oversees healthcare, with a cheque for $5 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cumulative contribution marks the halfway point of the foundation\u2019s commitment to the health centre\u2019s expansion, which has made significant progress just over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pembinavalleyonline.com\/articles\/groundbreaking-day-for-the-region-at-boundary-trails-health-centre\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three years after its groundbreaking<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Everything is coming together\u2019 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At this point in the project, the 24-inpatient facility is nearing completion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brent Menzies, the board chair of the BTHC Foundation, said it\u2019s \u201cexciting\u201d to see the progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything is coming together, and it&#8217;s a wonderful facility,\u201d he said. \u201cIt&#8217;s going to be great for patients and for families that come &#8230; and we&#8217;ll be starting to care for patients in this building in the new year, a February-March timeframe,\u201d said Kyle MacNair, the implementation\u00a0lead for Southern Health-Sant\u00e9 Sud who oversees capital projects in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"a new hospital\" data-caption=\"One of the rooms at BTHC's expansion nearing completion.\u00a0\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"7d45688c-498b-4a91-87c4-0d3e18ec7ffe\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/bthc_expansion_december_2025-09.jpg\"\/>One of the rooms at BTHC&#8217;s expansion nearing completion.\u00a0<br \/>\nThe next phase is around the corner\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to MacNair, the next phase of the initiative is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter they finish the community services building next door, they&#8217;re going to be moving a bunch of the programs into the community services building, and then we start renovations on &#8230; the existing hospital,\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It\u2019s] fairly extensive, about one third of the hospital will get renovated for more emergency room services, a new [operating room] theatre, a larger expanded cancer care unit, and an expanded ambulatory care unit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related stories:<\/p>\n<p>MacNair said that Southern Health-Sant\u00e9 Sud is always working on recruitment, retention, and staffing for the new facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re not going to expand to all twenty-four beds on day one \u2014 we\u2019re going to do a phase expansion as staffing is brought on,\u201d he said. \u201cIt&#8217;s progressing every day.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;People are excited in the community\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Joel Nelson, the director of health services at BTHC, said that as the expansion project grows, the community&#8217;s anticipation builds. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I often] get comments from staff or people coming into the facility [about] how big the expansion is and how excited [they are] that they\u2019ve seen the progress as they drive by it on the highway,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are excited in the community.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"a hospital addition \" data-caption=\"A glimpse into BTHC's 24-inpatient expansion.\u00a0\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"7730437b-9d1f-4d07-95bb-dc2b01c217cb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/bthc_expansion_december_2025-11.jpg\"\/>A glimpse into BTHC&#8217;s 24-inpatient expansion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nelson echoed Menzies\u2019 sentiment about the region&#8217;s impact on the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s incredible to see how the community has come together so quickly to raise the money and contribute to certain aspects of the expansion,\u201d he said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt allows us to expand services within the community.
