Sky Sports<\/a> he is \u201chobbling about\u201d on crutches after a major mountain bike spill during what he described as a period of stability in his treatment.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019ve smashed my leg up, that\u2019s the worst thing that\u2019s happened recently,\u201d Hoy said. \u201cYou just don\u2019t bounce like you do when you\u2019re younger. It was a big one. I\u2019m doing better now, I\u2019m still on crutches, hobbling about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hoy \u2014 who announced in October 2024 that his prostate cancer had spread to his bones and was diagnosed as terminal \u2014 said the crash was the most serious he has experienced in four decades on two wheels.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been riding bikes for 43 years, and it\u2019s the worst crash I\u2019ve ever had. I\u2019m pretty lucky that\u2019s the worst one I\u2019ve had in all those years of riding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018You want to make the most of the time you have\u2019<\/p>\n
The Scotsman, who remains Britain\u2019s second-most decorated Olympian behind Jason Kenny, said he refuses to step back from the activities that give him joy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to live my life, and I want to make the most of it,\u201d he said. \u201cNone of us is here forever, so you want to make the most of the time you have and do the things you enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the injury and his diagnosis, Hoy insisted he remains positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve just had an unfortunate spill, and it\u2019s the way the cookie crumbles,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m doing alright now, looking forward to Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hoy has previously said his cancer diagnosis has sharpened his perspective on what\u2019s most important.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s changed my life without question, but I think in some ways it\u2019s improved my life,\u201d he told BBC Sport. \u201cI try and focus on the here and the now, enjoying the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
