Sweeney, 28, told Ethan Hawke about how she landed the titular role in the boxer biopic Christy for Variety and CNN\u2019s Actors on Actors. \u201cI had been circling a few different projects that were in the MMA fighting space,\u201d she said. \u201cI grew up kickboxing, so I wanted to find something a little more physical. Then my agent was like, \u2018There\u2019s a script going around about Christy Martin. Why don\u2019t you read it?\u2019\u201d The film, which opened in <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/sydney-sweeneys-latest-movie-christy-flops-at-box-office\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/sydney-sweeneys-latest-movie-christy-flops-at-box-office\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11th place<\/a>, follows the life of Martin, a trailblazer in women\u2019s sports who endured abuse from her coach-turned-husband. \u201cHalfway through the script\u2014bawling my eyes out,\u201d Sweeney said. \u201cI couldn\u2019t believe that I had no idea who this woman was. I\u2019d never learned about her. The moment I finished, I got on a Zoom with the director [David Mich\u00f4d], begging him to please let me do this project. I was like, \u2018I will do anything for you. I will lose myself.\u2019\u201d Sweeney said she enjoyed working out twice a day and putting on 35 pounds for the role. \u201cI came to life.
