Jimmy Kimmel ripped into Time Magazine\u2019s AI-focused \u201cPerson of the Year\u201d cover, which he said looked like \u201cphotoshop from 2007.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comedian addressed the controversial cover during Thursday evening\u2019s monologue for \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live,\u201d where he voiced criticism for Time after the outlet bestowed the\u00a0\u201cArchitects of AI\u201d\u00a0\u2014including Mark Zuckerberg, Lisa Su, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Sam Altman, Demis Hassabis, Dario Amodei and Fei-Fei Li\u2014 with the annual honor.<\/p>\n

\u201cElon Musk, Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg and five other off-kilter tech sisters and bros, the architects of AI, are the person of the year,\u201d Kimmel shared with his studio audience, who booed in response to the reveal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was expecting more enthusiasm,\u201d the late night host quipped. \u201cThey call them architects. And I wonder, is it customary for an architect to have no idea how a building they\u2019ve designed works or whether or not it will one day rise up to try to kill them?\u201d<\/p>\n

As Kimmel went on, he joked that Musk and company started with the \u201cwhole AI business\u201d because they \u201cwanted a robot to have sex with and to tell them they\u2019re cool,\u201d slamming the group as \u201cthe eight dorks of the apocalypse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel didn\u2019t stop there, as he also roasted the overall design of the cover.<\/p>\n

\u201cPut that cover back up for a second,\u201d he noted. \u201cI want to say, ironically, with as much as you can do with AI graphically, it looks like photoshop from 2007.\u201d<\/p>\n

Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs explained the thinking behind the cover on \u201cTODAY<\/a>\u201d Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the year we feel like the people who were designing, imagining and building artificial intelligence stopped debating about how to create this technology and started racing to deploy it,\u201dJacobs said,\u201dand there are enormous consequences for society.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThis reminds me of the Gilded Age \u2026 I think never before since then has so much power been concentrated in so few individuals, and we know what happened then \u2014 amazing progress, but also incredible inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n
