Semi collision kills 1 as Trans-Canada shuts Revelstoke to Golden<\/p>\n

One person has died following a head-on collision between two semi-trailers on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke, shutting the route to Golden until further notice Friday.<\/p>\n
Revelstoke RCMP reported Friday afternoon, Dec. 12, that this \u201cserious motor vehicle incident\u201d between the city and Rogers Pass summoned frontline officers at 9:20 a.m.<\/p>\n
One semi driver was declared dead on scene, while the other was transported to hospital in serious condition, police said.<\/p>\n
Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden will remain closed until further notice as the collision site undergoes investigation, according to RCMP. Revelstoke officers are working with BC Highway Patrol and RCMP collision analysis and reconstruction specialists.<\/p>\n
DriveBC indicates that the closure won\u2019t be updated until at least 9:30 p.m. PST Friday. Since the morning, dozens of westbound semis have been waiting at the summit of Rogers Pass for the highway\u2019s reopening, a DriveBC camera shows.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased individual,\u201d BC RCMP\u2019s Cpl. Brett Urano said in a release. \u201cWe would like to thank all the first responders who attended and provided care to those involved in the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
Revelstoke RCMP encourages motorists to slow down and \u201calways drive to the conditions,\u201d and asks anyone with dashcam footage or eyewitness accounts of the collision to speak to an investigator.<\/p>\n
