He\u2019s such a positive dude, and it\u2019s great how he highlights the love people have for Dano. https:\/\/t.co\/nYjfu2e5uM<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Radioface (@Radioface_88) December 12, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n The praise for the \u201cBlack Phone 2\u201d actor stirred up after he shared his thoughts on Tarantino calling Dano\u2019s performance in Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s 2007 film \u201cThere Will Be Blood\u201d a \u201cbig giant flaw.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n During his sit-down with Rogan, Hawke said Tarantino\u2019s negative remarks only spawned positive support from the industry and Dano\u2019s fans.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a great lesson \u2026 What I don\u2019t think Paul Dano ever knew was that so many people loved him,\u201d Hawke said. \u201cOut of nowhere, Pau Dano\u2019s just going about his life, he\u2019s got to wake up one morning and find out this director\u2019s just went off on him saying these hateful things.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that anyone who knows Tarantino knows he is popular for making off-the-cuff, controversial statements, and those who are familiar with Dano, know that he\u2019s a kind person.<\/p>\n \u201cAnybody that knows Quentin knows he just talks, talks, talks, talks, right? Anybody that knows Paul knows he\u2019s a great, world-class human being,\u201d Hawke explained. \u201cAnd all this love for Paul\u2019s coming out, and it\u2019s a great lesson in that you don\u2019t have to worry about the negativity that people send your way. You don\u2019t have to worry about it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch the clip below:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n He went on to say that everyone\u2019s not going to be a fan of your work, highlighting an instance when a director gave him a backhanded compliment on one of his performances.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m positive, positive there are great directors that think I suck,\u201d Hawke shared. \u201cI remember once I met some director, and I won\u2019t say his name, at a bar, just this dive bar in New York. He\u2019s a really famous, big shot director. He\u2019s sitting there, and he\u2019d just seen my most recent movie. He\u2019s like, \u2018You know, you were pretty good in that one.\u2019 And in the comment was, the subtitle underneath it was, \u2018I have hated you for 27 years.\u2019 It was so clear. I was like, \u2018Wow, wow. Well, no wonder you\u2019ve never offered me a movie.\u2019 Directors have opinions, right? They have super strong opinions. What do they have strong opinions about? Acting.\u201d<\/p>\n The video\u2019s comment section and social media were filled with people praising Hawke for his honesty and kind words. <\/p>\n \u201cEthan entered a minefield and came out without detonating any, and looking like a badass,\u201d one person said in comment section of the video. \u201cThe way he maneuvered his discourse without offending Quentin, and yet defending his colleague was a class act, you can tell he\u2019s a really smart and standup guy.\u201d<\/p>\n Ethan Hawke and Pau Dano are bros.
