What happened in New York<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, Sinha shared, \u201cI was staying at the Radisson Hotel in New York.\u201d He recalled being invited to dinner and returning late, when it was the peak era of mugging in the city. \u201cIt was around 1 am, and the area was completely deserted,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

After dinner, he said his friend dropped him near the hotel but not at the entrance. “She dropped me a little ahead of the Radisson Hotel and said, \u2018That\u2019s the hotel, you can walk from here,\u2019\u201d he recalled. \u201cI agreed. I got down.\u201dSinha said he was carrying a shopping bag filled with items, basically everything that could attract a mugger, and noticed how quiet it was the moment the car pulled away. \u201cI was alone on the street, and there was complete silence,\u201d he said.Then he realised he was not where he thought he was. \u201cAfter my friend left, I realised it wasn\u2019t the hotel. All the buildings there look the same, and I became extremely nervous,\u201d he said. \u201cI genuinely felt that this could be the night something terrible would happen.\u201d He added, \u201cI thought, \u2018This could be the night I get killed.\u2019\u201dHe tried asking for directions. \u201cA black man was walking by, and I asked him which side the Radisson Hotel was on. He just said, \u2018Get lost,\u2019\u201d Sinha said. \u201cIt was around 2 am by then.\u201d Moments later, he said, \u201cSuddenly, a car started approaching while I stood there, almost waiting for my death on that dark street.\u201d<\/p>\n

How ‘Putt Jattan De’ led to help<\/p>\n

Sinha said the car stopped nearby and his fear spiked. \u201cI thought, \u2018This is it. This is my end,\u2019\u201d he recalled. \u201cThe car reversed,\u201d and he heard a voice ask, \u201cPutt Jattan De?\u201d He said the person then told him, \u201cStop right there.\u201dWhat happened next, Sinha said, was unexpected. \u201cThe driver asked me, \u2018What are you doing here? You could get killed. This is unbelievable,\u2019\u201d he recalled. The driver used his radio, and soon, Sinha said, \u201cabout 20\u201325 cars arrived.\u201d\u201cThey were all our people from Punjab, our Sikh brothers,\u201d he said. \u201cThey surrounded me from all sides and told me not to panic.\u201d He recalled them saying, \u201c\u2018This is a very dangerous area, but we recognised you,\u2019\u201d before they safely dropped him at his hotel.When Sinha offered money, he said they refused. \u201cThey said, \u2018Not at all. You are our hero.
