MLB Trade Rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Outfielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/dahlda01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.mlbtraderumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-13_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">David Dahl<\/a> announced his retirement <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ddahl21\/status\/1998836151076175992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">on his X feed<\/a> earlier this week, opting to end his playing career at age 31.\u00a0 As Dahl wrote in his farewell post, \u201cBaseball has been my life for as long as I can remember.\u00a0 From being a kid in Alabama chasing a lifelong dream to stepping foot on a big-league field\u2026after 13 seasons and several months to reflect on it, it\u2019s officially time for the next chapter.\u00a0 Thank you, baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dahl appeared in parts of seven Major League seasons from 2016-24, playing in 350 games and hitting .268\/.313\/.460 with 46 home runs over 1311 career plate appearances.\u00a0 The majority of Dahl\u2019s pro career was spent in the Rockies organization, beginning when Colorado selected the outfielder with the 10th overall pick of the 2012 draft.<\/p>\n<p>A regular on top-100 prospect rankings during his minor league career, Dahl\u2019s progress hit an unexpected roadblock when he suffered a lacerated spleen after colliding with a teammate during a 2015 Double-A game.\u00a0 Dahl opted to have his spleen removed entirely in order to get back onto the field before season\u2019s end, as waiting for the spleen to heal would\u2019ve likely cost him the entirety of the season.\u00a0 This unusual situation in some ways defined Dahl\u2019s career, highlighting his grit in trying to play through what ended up being a long list of injuries that set back his career.<\/p>\n<p>Dahl had an impressive MLB debut in 2016, hitting .315\/.359\/.500 over his first 237 PA in the Show.\u00a0 A stress fracture in his rib and then back spasms limited him to just 19 minor league games and no big league action in 2017, but Dahl was able to recover and appear in 177 games for Colorado over the 2018-19 seasons.\u00a0 The outfielder batted .291\/.342\/.528 with 31 homers in 684 PA over this two-year stretch, helping the Rockies reach the postseason in 2018 and earning an All-Star nod for himself in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Even during those two seasons, however, Dahl missed a good deal of time recovering from a right foot fracture and then a right high ankle sprain.\u00a0 2019 ended up being the high point of Dahl\u2019s production, as after Opening Day 2020, he hit only .200\/.237\/.318 over the final 390 PA of his big league career.\u00a0 Shoulder problems in 2020 led to a surgery after the season, and the Rockies chose to non-tender Dahl.\u00a0 He bounced around to six different teams over the next four seasons, and saw some more MLB time with the Rangers, Padres, and Phillies.<\/p>\n<p>After not playing at all in 2025, Dahl has now decided to hang up the cleats.\u00a0 We at MLB Trade Rumors congratulate Dahl on a fine career and wish him all the best in his post-playing endeavors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Outfielder David Dahl announced his retirement on his X feed earlier this week, opting to end his playing&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":342916,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[435],"tags":[49,48,149821,462,1705,82],"class_list":{"0":"post-342915","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mlb","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-canada","10":"tag-david-dahl","11":"tag-mlb","12":"tag-retirement","13":"tag-sports"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/342915","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=342915"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/342915\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/342916"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=342915"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=342915"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=342915"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
