{"id":344281,"date":"2025-12-14T08:11:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T08:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/344281\/"},"modified":"2025-12-14T08:11:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T08:11:07","slug":"joe-cordina-v-gabriel-flores-jr-welshman-wins-to-move-closer-to-two-weight-world-title-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/344281\/","title":{"rendered":"Joe Cordina v Gabriel Flores Jr: Welshman wins to move closer to two-weight world title dream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Joe Cordina is in line for a shot at becoming a two-weight world champion after dominating Gabriel Flores Jr in California on the way to a unanimous victory on points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wales&#8217; former IBF super-featherweight belt holder Cordina outboxed his American opponent, with judges scoring the contest 117-110 115-112 114-113.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The fight at the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton was billed as a final eliminator for the WBO lightweight world title which was won by Abdullah Mason in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/cn41yy7qvpko\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an epic encounter<\/a> with Sam Noakes in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Cordina, 34, was docked a point in the sixth round for rabbit punching, but was more in control than the judges&#8217; cards suggested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I got the win, but it wasn&#8217;t exactly the way I wanted to do it,&#8221; said Cordina. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;You can&#8217;t come in and nick a fight off me.
