{"id":345817,"date":"2025-12-15T01:51:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T01:51:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/345817\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T01:51:24","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T01:51:24","slug":"dearica-hamby-and-las-vegas-aces-drop-lawsuit-over-pregnancy-discrimination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/345817\/","title":{"rendered":"Dearica Hamby and Las Vegas Aces drop lawsuit over pregnancy discrimination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>      Las Vegas<br \/>\n      AP<br \/>\n        \u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4dzsb7000x26qlbnnda8wv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/09\/sport\/wnba-dearica-hamby-las-vegas-aces-allegations-investigation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Las Vegas Aces<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/21\/sport\/wnbpa-dearica-hamby-las-vegas-aces-allegations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dearica Hamby<\/a> mutually agreed to dismiss her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/08\/13\/sport\/wnba-dearica-hamby-lawsuit-pregancy-spt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit against the WNBA club<\/a>, according to a federal court filing Thursday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8h0006356pc3p25yox@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Hamby, who now plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, sued the Aces and the league over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/17\/sport\/wnba-probe-becky-hammon-dearica-hamby-spt-intl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">alleged mistreatment because of her pregnancy<\/a> at the time. A federal judge dismissed her lawsuit against the WNBA in May, saying Hamby failed to prove her allegations that the league failed to properly investigate the Aces.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i0007356p2o1m8bnu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Hamby filed the suit in August 2024 that alleged the Aces discriminated and retaliated against her, resulting in her January 2023 trade to the Sparks. The league and club filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit in September 2024.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i0008356pvokfa2qh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Aces and Hamby filed a motion Thursday with the U.S. District Court in Nevada to dismiss with prejudice, meaning it can\u2019t be refiled. Each side is responsible for their attorneys\u2019 fees.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i0009356px21m9lfx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Hamby told Front Office Sports she would not discuss the case\u2019s outcome, but otherwise she stood \u201cby what I said\u201d in her lawsuit.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i000a356phuydn9s0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There was no immediate comment from the Aces.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i000b356pti4gvf6t@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/16\/sport\/wnba-vegas-aces-becky-hammon-suspended-spt-intl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coach Becky Hammon<\/a> previously asserted that Hamby was traded to Los Angeles to put the Aces in position to potentially sign likely future Hall of Famer Candace Parker.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i000c356pd5i5v998@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI\u2019ve been in either the WNBA or the NBA for now 25 years,\u201d Hammon said at the time. \u201cI\u2019ve never had an HR complaint. Never, not once. I still didn\u2019t, actually, because Dearica didn\u2019t file any. She didn\u2019t file with the players\u2019 union, she didn\u2019t file with the WNBA. Those are facts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i000d356pr7rpt4oc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIt\u2019s also factual that nobody made a call about trading her until Atlanta called us in January (2023). That\u2019s a fact. So \u2026 it just didn\u2019t happen.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmj4e0l8i000e356plfq71kh7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Hamby, a three-time All-Star, averaged a career high 18.4 points last season as well as 7.9 rebounds.
