Laurent Mekies<\/a><\/a> also spoke of what pushed him to leave Ferrari before joining Red Bull.The 2026 Formula 1 season will see a raft of changes to the cars<\/a> with new engines and active aero.In F1<\/a>, the engines will no longer have an MGU-H, and a 50-50 split between petrol and electric power is being introduced.<\/p>\n

DRS will also leave the sport after making its debut in 2011 in a bid to aid overtaking.<\/p>\n

In its place, active aero is being brought in, where both the front and rear wings are movable.<\/p>\n

However, the teams are fearful that the skids will wear down if they run a higher-downforce setup throughout a wet race. The FIA<\/a>‘s solution is to allow the teams to enable active aero partially.\"2026_car_render_8\"\/<\/p>\n

Laurent Mekies has helped bring a different atmosphere to the Red Bull team since he replaced Christian Horner in July.<\/p>\n

The Frenchman oversaw Max Verstappen’s<\/a> charge towards the world championship, although the Dutchman fell short by two points.<\/p>\n

Mekies stepped up from Racing Bulls into the Austrian outfit and has already made the tough decision to replace Yuki Tsunoda with Isack Hadjar.<\/p>\n

The Red Bull team boss explained he enjoyed his time at Ferrari, but becoming a team principal was an unmissable opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cFerrari was a fantastic experience; I learned an enormous amount with Mattia and with the team \u2014 lessons I still carry with me,\u201d Mekies told Corriere dello Sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also had a close relationship with Fred, so staying on would have been nice as well. But I\u2019m not the kind of person who settles into a comfort zone, and I was offered the team principal role at Racing Bulls \u2014 a train I simply couldn\u2019t afford to miss. Then life brought me here at Red Bull.\u201d<\/p>\n
