However, the director already has thoughts about the next installment in the franchise. Johnson told <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/knives-out-4-director-rian-johnson-shares-update-next-mystery-11868516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, \u201cI have some basic, elemental, conceptual ideas. Like, \u2018Okay, it\u2019d be interesting if it were this kind of thing\u2019 kernels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe director continued, \u201cI don\u2019t have actual concrete ideas. I don\u2019t have a theme yet. I don\u2019t have a location. It\u2019s really pretty vague, and I feel like it\u2019s good to kinda keep it vague until I\u2019m ready to actually sit down and write it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the meantime, Johnson hopes to direct at least one original film before returning to \u201cKnives Out\u201d for another story of Craig\u2019s stately southern detective Benoit Blanc. He says that the \u201cKnives Out\u201d movies are all meant to be products of their time, and therefore, the intricate plots and their surrounding themes cannot be rushed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPart of making these movies, for me, is reacting to the present moment, not necessarily with current events or politics or culture specifically, but in terms of what we\u2019re all feeling in the world at that moment,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI like that these movies are not timeless, per se, and that they all have one foot in something that is common to all of us in our present moment. So, yeah, I don\u2019t know. I have a vague notion, but trying to keep it vague until it\u2019s time to actually do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJohnson began the \u201cKnives Out\u201d series in 2019, with Lionsgate\u2019s release of the first film in theaters.
