The Boston Red Sox<\/a> entered the offseason with seemingly big goals.<\/p>\n

So far, all they have to show for those is a trade to acquire an aging Sonny Gray.<\/p>\n

They were linked to Pete Alonso, and he signed with the division rival Baltimore Orioles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They were connected to Kyle Schwarber, but he stayed with the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If Alex Bregman were to sign elsewhere, it’d really send the Red Sox fanbase into panic mode.<\/p>\n

There’s an expectation that at least one trade is still coming. Boston probably needs to trade away either Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu from its outfield logjam, likely for pitching. So that could add some excitement.<\/p>\n

But the free agency market has so far been a bit of a swing-and-miss.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox could still make noise, including with the recent rumors having them heavily involved for right-handed starter Michael King.<\/p>\n

If Boston misses King and a few other targets, though, this offseason will feel a lot less fun than Red Sox fans may have been expecting.<\/p>\n
