An investigation is underway following a police shooting in Calgary.<\/p>\n

Calgary police Chief Katie McLellan said the incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Dalhousie LRT station in the city\u2019s northwest.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur officers were called for assistance by bylaw officers, who reported seeing a man acting erratically and carrying a knife,\u201d said McLellan.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring that response, officers were involved in a shooting that resulted in serious injury to one man.\u00a0 Thankfully, no officers or bystanders were hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man was rushed to hospital, but so far there\u2019s no update on his condition.<\/p>\n

McLellan said there is no further risk to the public, thanks to the quick action of officers who \u201cacted swiftly to protect the public in this very dangerous situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked how many shots were fired, police wouldn\u2019t confirm, but did say \u201call the rounds that were fired are accounted for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\tCalgary police aren\u2019t releasing many details on what led up to the shooting. However, they say Calgary bylaw officers called for help when they encountered a man who was behaving erratically and carrying a knife.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to lead the investigation into the shooting.<\/p>\n

The Dalhousie LRT station has also been shut down and the public is being asked to avoid the area.<\/a><\/p>\n

Calgary Transit also put shuttle buses in place<\/a> between the Crowfoot, Dalhousie and Brentwood LRT stations.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\tCalgary police have shut down the Dalhousie LRT station and are asking the public to avoid the area while they investigate and officer-involved shooting.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n

Calgary police Supt. Joe Brar says that public safety around the city\u2019s transit stations is a longstanding concern of the City of Calgary.\u00a0 He added they\u00a0 continuing to work with the city and other partners \u201cto make sure that the C-Train and all public spaces are safe for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the busier LRT stations, with the (Market) mall being close by. So there\u2019s several people who actually witnessed the incident happen,\u201d said Brar.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ve got witnesses we are speaking to, but if there\u2019s anybody else who has information, I ask them to reach out to ASIRT, and if they have any video or other evidence, to pass it on to ASIRT.\u201d<\/p>\n
