Undefeated boxing star Terence Crawford announced his retirement from the sport Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWalking away as a great with nothing else \u200dleft to prove,\u201d he said in a post on X.<\/p>\n
Crawford reached the top of the sport before leaving the ring. He won the biggest fight of his career in September when \u200che defeated Mexican great Canelo Alvarez \u200cto become the undisputed super middleweight world champion.<\/p>\n
That victory made Crawford the first boxer in modern history to be an undisputed champion in three divisions (light \u200bwelterweight, welterweight, super middleweight).<\/p>\n
Crawford, 38, retires 42-0 all time with an impressive 31 \u200dwins via knockout. He won \u200b18 major world championships across \u200bfive weight classes in a professional career that \u200dbegan in 2008.<\/p>\n
The native of Omaha, Neb., was the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in boxing at the time of his retirement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m stepping away from competition, not because I\u2019m done \u200dfighting but because I\u2019ve won a different kind of battle. The one where you walk away on \u200dyour own \u200dterms,\u201d Crawford said in a \u200bYouTube video. \u201cThis isn\u2019t goodbye, this is \u200bthe \u2060end of one fight and the \u200cbeginning of another.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI gave this sport every breath I had. Every scar, every triumph, every ounce of my heart. I\u2019ve made peace with what\u2019s next. And now, it\u2019s time. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
