After finishing the year as the runner-up to the World Series, they aren’t slowing down. They aren’t afraid to spend money from their international free agent pool to shore up their pitching and hitting potential. Sure, they have made moves to add Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers, and Chase Lee. But the question on everyone’s mind involves the Blue Jays’ ability to sign both Bo Bichette and free agent Kyle Tucker.

A new report suggests that the chances of Toronto signing both sluggers are zero. However, other MLB insiders believe that if any team can sign both of them, it’s the Blue Jays.

One MLB analyst suggests that a surprise team should shoot their shot for Bichette. Blue Jays fans certainly won’t be happy with this update.

Bo Bichette is on Bitter Rivals’ Wish-List

Bichette has been linked to a few teams this winter. The Atlanta Braves were on the list of suitors before signing Ha-Seong Kim. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are said to be in the mix. One sneaky team that could surprise everyone is none other than the Blue Jays’ new rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

MLB.com analyst Anthony Castrovince appeared on the MLB Network recently. He discussed why the Dodgers should target Bichette.

“They still need lineup help. Their lineup was kind of hot and cold last year,” Castrovince said in a clip posted on X on December 15. “Beyond their big dogs, they do have some positional issues. I would wish for them, Bo Bichette, for a couple reasons. One, he fills a need at second base, where they did not get much production at second base.”

“If you signed Bichette and put him there, now you can use Tommy Edman in the outfield. The outfield needs some support defensively and offensively.”

Objectively speaking, this makes sense. Tommy Edman played 66 games at second base in 2025. However, he also spent 13 games at third base and 25 in center field. If the Dodgers could sign Bichette and play him at second base, they could move Edman to center field.

Castrovince’s second reason that the Dodgers should be interested in Bichette is an emotional one.

“I like the troll job that this would be,” Castrovince said. “To sign one of the key pieces, the heart and soul of the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays then pivot to Kyle Tucker, and then you have the two best teams in baseball last year getting better in different ways. But also this narrative of ‘should they meet again in the World Series?”

“It was a great World Series, but now you would have this emotional element tied to it with Bo Bichette being on the other side.”

Edwin Diaz, Kyle Tucker, & the Dodgers

This new information is salt in an already bloody wound for the Blue Jays. Toronto was in the mix for Edwin Diaz before the Dodgers swooped in and signed him for three years.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Dodgers also have interest in Tucker. Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo of The Athletic reported in early December about the Dodgers’ plans.

“Los Angeles is unlikely to offer Tucker a six- or seven-year deal, according to a person briefed on the team’s plans,” Rosenthal and Woo wrote on December 9, 2025. “The club, however, would entertain a shorter three-to-four-year deal with a high annual average value, similar to what Alex Bregman landed last spring when he signed a three-year, $120 million contract with the Boston Red Sox.”

At the beginning of the offseason, The Athletic projected a 12-year, $460 million contract for Tucker. That kind of contract comes out to about $38 million per year. Are the Dodgers willing to go $40 million per season? Or even $42 million?

The only people who know the answer to this question are the Dodgers and Tucker’s reps.

Blue Jays Tabbed to Get One of Bichette & Tucker

While Jeff Passan has suggested the Blue Jays could land both Bichette and Tucker, others aren’t as optimistic.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand has spoken about how the Bichette market will unfold after the Tucker domino falls.

“I think Kyle Tucker is the first domino that needs to fall. Tucker has a big market, and the Blue Jays are very into him,” Feinsand said on December 16th. “There are other teams, the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers. … The only thing that I don’t see is Toronto getting Tucker and Bichette. If Tucker goes somewhere else, then maybe Bichette returns to Toronto.”

Just because Feinsand doesn’t see it, doesn’t mean that it can’t (or won’t) happen. After all, he predicted that the Los Angeles Angels would land Cease, who the Blue Jays signed instead.

One way or another, the next few days and weeks will be interesting for Blue Jays fans to monitor.

Caleb Kerney Caleb covers the NHL for Heavy.com.
