Here are 14 celebs who have admitted to taking roles and directing gigs literally just because they were in it for the paycheck:<\/p>\n

Al Pacino<\/a> revealed<\/a> that he only appeared in Adam Sandler’s film Jack & Jill because he was “broke” and “had nothing.” He admitted that, at the time, he’d been “living above” his means and spending more money than he actually had.<\/p>\n 2.<\/p>\n Jacob Elordi<\/a> has been on a career high with films like Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights<\/a>, but back in 2023, when he was asked what he’s looking for in his next project, he said<\/a>, “I play what they give me. I need a job.”<\/p>\n 3.<\/p>\n On an episode of the Smartless<\/a> podcast, Taika Waititi<\/a> talked about directing two of the Thor movies \u2014 Thor: Ragnarok<\/a> and Thor: Love and Thunder \u2014 and said he didn’t even want to direct one in the first place. “You know what? I had no interest in doing one of those films,” he said. “It wasn\u2019t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor and I\u2019d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children.'”<\/p>\n 4.<\/p>\n On the red carpet for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Rachel Zegler was asked what made her want to join the DC superhero franchise. She responded<\/a> by saying, “I needed a job. I’m being so serious.” She continued adding that, at the time, her breakout film West Side Story hadn’t come out yet so she wasn’t super well-known. “The reality is we\u2019re in the middle of a pandemic and I was not working and I couldn\u2019t get a job for the life of me, because West Side Story hadn\u2019t come out yet,\u201d she confessed. \u201cIt was really hard to book work for me.\u201d<\/p>\n 5.<\/p>\n While on the press tour for Wonka Hugh Grant said that he “hated”<\/a> making it. “I made a big fuss about it,” he said when asked about working with the tech that turned him into an Oompa Loompa. “I couldn\u2019t have hated the whole thing more.” He added that the reason he took the role was because he has “lots of children and [needs] money.”<\/p>\n 6.<\/p>\n Amanda Seyfried once said<\/a> that she starred in rom-coms because they “pay a lot of money.” She even shared that the movie Letters to Juliet paid for her New York apartment. “Sometimes, when you want to buy an apartment in Manhattan, you gotta do one or two. But in most cases you don\u2019t need to be doing them \u2014 there are enough action flicks to keep you busy\u2026 no I\u2019m kidding. Romantic comedies are great, though, if they\u2019re done well.
