\n\tKevin Spacey<\/a> is set to mark his return to the small screen for the first time since he was fired from Netflix\u2019s \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d in 2017 amid allegations of sexual misconduct. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor \u2014\u00a0who has been trying to resuscitate his career in recent years \u2014\u00a0is set to star in Italian comedy series \u201cMinimarket\u201d for Italy<\/a>\u2018s state broadcaster RAI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the low-budget show, the two-time Oscar winner plays himself as the imaginary mentor of a young man who works in a Rome convenience store and dreams of becoming a TV star. As seen in a promo, Spacey sings\u00a0Randy Newman\u2019s \u201cYou\u2019ve Got a Friend in Me\u201d and Frank Sinatra classic \u201cI\u2019ve Got You Under My Skin\u201d in tandem with Italian actor Filippo Lagan\u00e0 (pictured above), who plays aspiring Italian star Manlio Vigan\u00f2.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the synopsis, Spacey plays Vigan\u00f2\u2019s \u201cartistic conscience and unpredictable mentor,\u201d with their rapport mostly grounded in \u201cbickering, misunderstandings and mutual teasing.\u201d It adds that the show captures both \u201cthe experience of a man who has been on the world\u2019s most important [movie and TV] sets\u201d and \u201cthe recklessness of someone who does not realise that they have an Oscar-winner by their side.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe ten-episode \u201cMinimarket\u201d show will launch on RAI\u2019s RaiPlay streaming service starting on Dec. 26.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpacey, who was acquitted of sexual assault charges brought by four men in a U.K. criminal trial in 2023, has more recently been hit with three more claims of sexual assault that he will face in a London civil court next year. BBC News last month reported that Spacey has formally denied two of the three civil claims in court, but has not yet filed a defense for the third.<\/p>\n

\n\tLast month Spacey announced in an interview with British newspaper The Telegraph\u00a0that he was officially homeless after his Hollywood film career came crashing down amid various sexual assault allegations.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m living in hotels, I\u2019m living in Airbnbs,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m going where the work is. I literally have no home, that\u2019s what I\u2019m attempting to explain\u2026 The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical. I\u2019ve had very little coming in and everything going out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tItaly has been welcoming Spacey for years. The U.S. actor in 2021 made his return to acting, starring as a police detective in Italian actor\/director Franco Nero\u2019s low budget indie drama \u201cL\u2019uomo Che Disegn\u00f2 Dio\u201d (\u201cThe Man Who Drew God\u201d). He has also\u00a0appeared as a character named \u201cThe Devil\u201d in Italian director Massimo Paolucci\u2019s psychological thriller \u201cThe Contract.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn March of last year Spacey was back on U.S. movie screens with indie thriller \u201cPeter Five Eight,\u201d also starring Rebecca de Mornay, which got mostly ignored by critics and marked Spacey\u2019s first leading role since being cleared in the 2023 London trial. Since then he has appeared in\u00a0yet-to-be-released British indie action-thriller \u201cThe Awakening\u201d in which he appears as the head of sinister global cabal, a film that he was promoting earlier this year in Cannes, and directed the supernatural action-thriller \u201cHoliguards.\u201d<\/p>\n
