The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed National defensive\u00a0back\u00a0Jaxon Ford\u00a0to\u00a0a contract extension.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ford\u00a0(6\u20190-210)\u00a0was selected by the Roughriders in the second round, 11th overall, of the 2023 CFL Draft. The\u00a025-year-old\u00a0Regina native has appeared in 31 regular season games as a Roughrider, making four starts at safety, and has registered 19 defensive tackles. An integral part of the Club\u2019s special\u00a0teams\u00a0unit, Ford has also tallied 11 special\u00a0teams\u00a0tackles.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ford had a breakout season as a\u00a0rookie\u00a0in 2023, suiting up for 15 games and starting two. He became a\u00a0Labour\u00a0Day Classic hero when he tipped Zach Collaros\u2019s two-point convert throw in overtime to seal\u00a0a\u00a032\u201330 victory for the Green and White.\u00a0He started each of the\u00a0next two games\u00a0and made two more starts in the\u00a0Grey Cup\u00a0championship season of\u00a02025.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Collegiately, Ford played four seasons (2018-22) at the University of Regina. Over 29 games,\u00a0he\u00a0recorded 130 tackles\u00a0(10.5 for\u00a0a\u00a0loss), one sack, five interceptions, 11 pass knockdowns, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick. In 2022, Ford started all eight games at safety for the Rams, earned U SPORTS Second-Team All-Canadian\u00a0honours, and was named a Canada West All-Star.
