La Presse Canadienne<\/a> that Cadillac is confronting the same challenges he once did.<\/p>\n\u201cCadillac is doing what I had to do,\u201d Pollock said. \u201cYou start from scratch and you have to build the team. That\u2019s very, very difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n
BAR famously endured a disastrous debut season in 1999, failing to score a single point before gradually improving. Pollock said expectations must be carefully managed this time.<\/p>\n
\u201cA team is not about putting 400, 500 or 600 people together,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt takes a lot of time to build a team. It can take three, five years.\u201d<\/p>\n
He believes Cadillac has learned from history, pointing to the appointment of former Marussia boss Graeme Lowdon. \u201cThey won\u2019t make the mistake we made at the start,\u201d Pollock smiled, referring to BAR\u2019s early overconfidence about wins in the first season.<\/p>\n
Unlike BAR, however, Cadillac will enter during a full regulation reset. \u201cThis is 100 percent the best time to enter as the 11th team,\u201d Pollock stressed, noting that all competitors are effectively starting again under the 2026 rules.<\/p>\n
Pollock also backed Cadillac\u2019s choice of experienced drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez. \u201cIt\u2019s smart, because they have experience. They can bring their experience from other teams and help the engineers make the necessary changes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, he added: \u201cBoth are very good drivers, but both, in truth, were always second in other teams.\u201d<\/p>\n
Turning to Aston Martin\u2019s high-profile hiring of Adrian Newey, Pollock struck a note of caution. Having briefly worked with Newey at Williams, he acknowledged the designer is \u201chyper-competent\u201d \u2013 but questioned his new role as team principal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are never any miracles in F1,\u201d Pollock warned. \u201cWe\u2019ll see. It\u2019s not just him, it\u2019s the whole team around him. Everyone has to work together.
