\n\tAlbert Brooks<\/a> first met Rob Reiner<\/a> when both were teenagers at Beverly Hills High School 60 years ago, and the Hollywood comic and actor still hasn\u2019t come to terms with his lifelong friend\u2019s sudden death.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRob was my oldest friend. It\u2019s that simple. He\u2019s the person that I\u2019ve known the longest. I met him when I was 14 years old. So I\u2019m still in that not believing it stage,\u201d Brooks said during an appearance in the CBS News: Rob Reiner \u2013 Scene From a Life special to air on Sunday and stream on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe bodies of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner<\/a>, were discovered inside<\/a> their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14 and their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in his parents\u2019 deaths.<\/p>\n

\n\tBrooks, who met Reiner in their high school drama class, says he\u2019s still in shock over the iconic Hollywood director\u2019s death. \u201cI know it happened, but, you know, I\u2019m driving around and all of a sudden \u2013 I actually two days ago, I called his number,\u201d he recalled, according to CBS News, which teased the special on Friday.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a June 2024 conversation <\/a>in The Hollywood Reporter, Reiner asked Brooks to recall talking to his father, Carl Reiner, about a comedy bit he was working on for NBC\u2019s Dean Martin Presents the Golddiggers show during his early career. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat was a huge life experience because I was coming up with bits weekly, and Rob was still living at home, so I went by his house. He wasn\u2019t there, but [Rob\u2019s father] Carl [Reiner] was there. I said, \u2018I want to show Rob this bit I have to do today,\u2019 and Carl said, \u2018Oh, show me. I did the bit, and Carl said, \u2018I don\u2019t think so. I just don\u2019t see it.\u2019 And I couldn\u2019t do anything \u2014 it was three o\u2019clock,\u00a0and I had to be at NBC at 3:30. So I did the bit, and it killed. It was one of those lessons where you go, \u2018Hey, I might know what I\u2019m doing.\u2019 I tell that to my daughter, who\u2019s a singer-songwriter. The thing that breaks my heart about young people is the opinions that they are under siege with, continuously, with social media. I wouldn\u2019t have had a career!\u201d Brooks recounted.<\/p>\n
