Theo \u201cThird\u201d Chambers once wanted no part of YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, the highly respected trainer is firmly in the Problem Child\u2019s corner and will be backing Paul when he faces Anthony Joshua on Friday.<\/p>\n Joshua (28-4, 24 KOs) meets Paul (12-1, 7 KOs)<\/a> in a professional eight-round heavyweight bout on Dec. 19 at Miami\u2019s Kaseya Center, with the fight streaming on Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n The matchup stands as one of the most unconventional in recent years, with the 28-year-old Paul aiming to upset the 36-year-old former two-time heavyweight champion.<\/p>\n In Paul\u2019s corner is Chambers and a team out of the esteemed Kronk Gym in Detroit. Chambers Didn\u2019t Want to Train Paul At First<\/p>\n Chambers originally didn\u2019t want to train Paul before he agreed to become head coach about two years ago.<\/p>\n Chambers told SunSport<\/a> in June: \u201cI said no! I was training world class fighters, ranked fighters.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, at the time when he said YouTube, I didn\u2019t even know what that meant. And then when I actually found out what it meant, then I really wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n 2. Chambers is Part of Detroit\u2019s Kronk Gym<\/p>\n Kronk Gym is famous for developing world-class fighters under the guidance of legendary trainer Emanuel \u201cManny\u201d Steward.<\/p>\n Chambers trained at Kronk from a young age and has gone on to work with world champions such as Andre Dirrell and Cornelius Bundrage. J\u2019Leon Love, a fixture in Jake Paul\u2019s camp since his professional debut, also honed his skills at the storied gym.<\/p>\n It was Love, now an assistant coach, who first approached Chambers about joining the YouTuber-turned-boxer\u2019s team.<\/p>\n 3. Chambers Impressed With Paul\u2019s Performance Against Silva and Fury<\/p>\n Chambers was ultimately persuaded to join Paul\u2019s team after watching his performances in key bouts, including his win over UFC legend Anderson Silva and his competitive loss to Tommy Fury.<\/p>\n Chambers told SunSport: \u201cEvery fight that Jake had, J\u2019Leon was there so he would always call me before the fights. \u2018Hey, watch it on TV, watch it, watch it.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd you know, because I love J\u2019Leon, he\u2019s my brother and I\u2019ve been training him since he was 15 years old, so I watched the kid.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd it ain\u2019t so much me looking at skill-wise, it\u2019s where\u2019s his heart? Where\u2019s his passion at to even be a boxer.<\/p>\n \u201cBut when he fought Anderson Silva, that\u2019s what let me know that he had it in him.<\/p>\n \u201cThen when he fought Fury, even, even in his loss with Fury, with me, he won.<\/p>\n \u201cSo then when they came back around to me, \u2018Would you train Jake?\u2019 I said yes I will train Jake.\u201d<\/p>\n 4. Chambers Has Cornered Paul to Six Consecutive Victories<\/p>\n After his loss to Fury, the Problem Child split with former coaches BJ Flores and Danny Smith, with Chambers stepping in as their replacement.<\/p>\n Since joining Paul\u2019s camp, Chambers has been instrumental in sharpening Paul\u2019s boxing skills. He has cornered him through six straight victories, including marquee bouts against Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.<\/p>\n 5.
