Marc Bergevin is leaving his position with the Los Angeles Kings to become the Sabres’ associate general manager, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday. <\/p>\n
The move comes the same day that Jarmo Kekalainen made his first change since\u00a0taking over control\u00a0of the\u00a0Sabres’ hockey operations department, firing associate general manager Jason Karmanos on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Bergevin was hired by the Kings in 2022 as a senior advisor to the general manager. He was also named as the general manager of the Canadian team for this year’s Spengler Cup. <\/p>\n
The 59-year-old Bergevin spent nearly a decade as the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens from 2012 to 2021, where he helped build a team that made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021.<\/p>\n
Prior to landing in Montreal, Bergevin was with the Chicago Blackhawks in a variety of roles, including assistant general manager during their 2010 championship season.<\/p>\n
He joins a Sabres team that has the NHL\u2019s longest playoff drought at 14 seasons dating to their last appearance in 2011.
