{"id":360472,"date":"2025-12-21T21:53:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T21:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/360472\/"},"modified":"2025-12-21T21:53:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T21:53:15","slug":"why-toto-wolff-expects-new-2026-f1-cars-to-be-fascinating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/360472\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Toto Wolff expects new 2026 F1 cars to be \u2018fascinating\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/tag\/mercedes\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mercedes<\/a> boss Toto Wolff has looked ahead to the new era of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> ushered in by 2026, expecting excitement after \u201cdifficult years\u201d for his team.<\/p>\n<p>The Brackley-based team cemented itself as one of F1\u2019s most dominant outfits during the hybrid era, winning eight Constructors\u2019 Championships between 2014 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>However, fortunes shifted as the paddock moved to the ground-effect cars from 2022 onwards. <\/p>\n<p>There were momentary highlights, like Lewis Hamilton\u2019s win at home in 2024, but nothing like the glory of an era past.<\/p>\n<p>A small token of joy for the Silver Arrows will be that its engine remained competitive, powering Lando Norris and McLaren to titles over the last two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 F1 season will see significant regulation changes, including all-new engines, active aerodynamics, and the loss of DRS. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Mercedes_F1_2026-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"Tubes connected to the Mercedes F1 car front wing at Abu Dhabi's post-season test.\" class=\"wp-image-233727\"  \/>Mercedes ran testing tubes on its car during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>Rumours place Mercedes as the team to beat in 2026, much like they kicked off a period of relative domination as the hybrid era began. <\/p>\n<p>While Wolff has remained coy on that talk, he is no doubt excited to see his car on track at January\u2019s pre-season test in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a very successful spell over those years,\u201d he said in a Mercedes <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MercedesAMGF1\/status\/2001329541747265640?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">social media video<\/a>. \u201cWe won eight championships. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we had difficult\u00a0years that followed. And so this one era ends, an era that we will be looking back\u00a0with a lot of positive memories, mostly positive memories. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now we are starting in the real\u00a0hybrid era. We are driving 50% electric engines with sustainable fuel. And that\u00a0almost tops, gives it one notch of innovation more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I just came out of the simulator watching the car drive.
