The Cleveland Guardians<\/a> often find a way to add intriguing pitchers to their roster.<\/p>\n

They did it again on Monday.<\/p>\n

The latest signing is Codi Heuer, a 6-foot-5 right-handed reliever, who was signed to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, according to MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Heuer was originally a sixth-round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox<\/a> in 2018 from Wichita State.<\/p>\n

He made his MLB debut in 2020 with the White Sox, putting up a 1.52 ERA in 21 games.<\/p>\n

He then pitched in 40 games with the White Sox in 2021 (5.12 ERA) before ending that season with 25 more games with the Chicago Cubs<\/a> (3.14 ERA).<\/p>\n

Injuries kept Heuer away from an MLB mound for the next three seasons.<\/p>\n

He returned to the majors in 2025 for a total of three appearances.<\/p>\n

One was made with the Texas Rangers<\/a>, as Heuer allowed one run in 1.1 innings pitched.<\/p>\n

Then with the Detroit Tigers<\/a>, Heuer pitched in two more games, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings pitched.<\/p>\n

Heuer is obviously a bit of a roll of the dice given his injury history, but all told, he has a career 3.67 ERA in the big leagues.<\/p>\n

The Guardians have been known to make things work with pitchers, and Heuer is just 29 years old, so there’s time to maximize his ability still. It’s a worthwhile low-risk move by Cleveland.<\/p>\n
