Adding a legitimate top-six forward, bolstering the bottom six with an impactful depth piece, or bringing in another steady defenseman to further solidify the blue line all make sense.<\/p>\n<p>Which path general manager Stan Bowman chooses will largely depend on what\u2019s available, but if the St. Louis Blues decide to open up shop, NHL insiders believe he should be making a call to Doug Armstrong about <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/parayco01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=nhltradetalk.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-22_hr\">Colton Parayko<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Rutherford and Chris Johnston of The Athletic recently examined the Blues\u2019 trade landscape and listed the Oilers as one of two logical landing spots for Parayko should he become available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6845922\/2025\/12\/19\/blues-trade-board-big-names\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johnston wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParayko\u2019s contract should age like a fine wine in an environment where a surging salary cap sends player salaries skyrocketing. Provided his game doesn\u2019t implode, it\u2019s reasonable to expect him to remain a positive-value asset for the remainder of the deal. When you couple that with the fact Parayko\u2019s been a steady contributor in St. Louis for more than a decade, it\u2019s little wonder teams come calling. It\u2019s going to be mighty difficult to get the Blues to part with him, though\u2026 What teams might be interested?\u00a0Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old Parayko is in year four of the eight-year, $52 million extension he signed with the Blues back in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Cost For the Oilers to Land Colton Parayko<\/p>\n<p>As intriguing as Parayko would be for the Oilers, the biggest question is what it would take to bring him to Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Colton-Parayko-Oilers-trade.jpg\" alt=\"Colton Parayko Oilers trade\" class=\"wp-image-102823\"  \/>Colton Parayko Oilers trade<\/p>\n<p>According to estimates from Rutherford and Johnston, the asking price would likely include a first-round pick, a mid-round pick, a prospect, and a roster player to help balance the salaries.<\/p>\n<p>Edmonton doesn\u2019t own its first-round pick this season, but it does have one in each of the next three drafts and is relatively well stocked when it comes to mid-round selections. Where things get more complicated is on the player and prospect side of the equation.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mangian01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=nhltradetalk.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-22_hr\">Andrew Mangiapane<\/a> ($3.6 million AAV), <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kapanka01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=nhltradetalk.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-22_hr\">Kasperi Kapanen<\/a> ($1.3 million), and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tomasda01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=nhltradetalk.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-12-22_hr\">David Tomasek<\/a> ($1.2 million) could all be used as throw-ins to offset salary.
