{"id":362536,"date":"2025-12-22T22:02:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T22:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/362536\/"},"modified":"2025-12-22T22:02:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T22:02:13","slug":"canada-post-union-finalize-tentative-deals-on-new-contracts-national","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/362536\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Post, union finalize tentative deals on new contracts &#8211; National"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/canada-post\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada Post<\/a> and the union representing its postal workers said Monday they have finalized tentative agreements on new contracts, potentially bringing an end to the long-running labour dispute.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1765485674_689_70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) said in a statement that ratification votes on the deals for its urban and rural units will take place early in the new year.<\/p>\n<p>Union leadership is urging members to approve the agreements, national president Jan Simpson said.<br \/>\u201cThe tentative agreements deliver wages increases, with protections against inflation, improved benefits, and job security,\u201d Simpson said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese five-year agreements provide much needed stability to postal workers and the communities across the country that we are proud to serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tentative agreements come more than two years after negotiations began, a period that saw two national strikes and growing financial instability for the Crown corporation.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11538020\/canada-post-agreement-contract-strike-union\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The two sides reached \u201cagreements in principle\u201d a month ago<\/a> that they said would form the basis of new tentative agreements. Urban employees will see their existing job security measures maintained under their new contract.<\/p>\n<p>Canada Post said the deals also create a \u201cnew operating model to support weekend parcel delivery,\u201d resolving one of the major disputes between the two sides in negotiations.
