Compatriot Demi Vollering added a second Vuelta Espa\u00f1a Femenina to her burgeoning collection of victories, Elisa Longo Borghini defended her Giro d\u2019Italia Women pink jersey and Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot made a winning return to road cycling in front of a partisan home crowd.<\/p>\n<p>There was also Magdeleine Vallieres\u2019 surprise win in Rwanda at the road world championships, the injury-plagued season of Lotte Kopecky, and the retirement of Britain\u2019s Lizzie Deignan.<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn\u2019t all about the results. Dirk Waem \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>While Tadej Poga\u010dar dominated the men\u2019s WorldTour, Wiebes dominated the women&#8217;s with 19 victories.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch one-day and sprint specialist bookended her 2025 with wins and racked up a total of 19 at WorldTour level, which included one general classification at the Simac Ladies Tour, 14 stage wins including two at the Tour de France Femmes, and the relaunched Milano\u2013Sanremo Donne.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wiebes picked up a further six wins in non-Women\u2019s WorldTour races, the points classification jerseys at the Tour de France Femmes and Giro d\u2019Italia Women and the rainbow jersey at the Gravel World Championships. Tim de Waele \/ Getty Images <\/p>\n<p>France finally had reason to cheer this summer as Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot ended the 36-year wait for a home winner at the Tour de France.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old made her switch back to road cycling with Visma\u2013Lease a Bike at the start of 2025 after years of dominance in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/fitness-and-training\/cross-country-racing-guide\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cross-country mountain biking<\/a> and wasted no time in getting up to speed, becoming the first French rider to clinch the Tour de France Femmes yellow jersey since Jeannie Longo won her third and final title at its predecessor \u2013 1989\u2019s Tour de France F\u00e9minin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The wait continues for the men, though, with it now 40 years since Bernard Hinault\u2019s fifth yellow jersey win in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>48<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1599\" height=\"1066\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/GettyImages-2232858599.jpg\" alt=\"Mischa Bredewold of Netherlands and Team SD Worx - Protime.\" class=\"wp-image-952796\"\/>Mischa Bredewold of the Netherlands and Team SD Worx\u2013Protime. Tim de Waele \/ Getty Images <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not only the men\u2019s WorldTour that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/this-years-tour-de-france-was-the-fastest-ever\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">getting faster<\/a>. At the 2025 UAE Tour Women, Kristen Faulkner\u2019s record for the fastest average stage (46.75kph on stage 4 of the 2024 Vuelta Femenina) was obliterated by Wiebes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wiebes averaged 48.407kph for the 111km stage 2, taking advantage of a pan-flat parcours and crosswinds to get into a five-strong breakaway including Longo Borghini, before outsprinting her fellow escapees on the line. Szymon Gruchalski \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/zwift-highlights-impact-of-tour-de-france-femmes-avec-zwift\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift<\/a> was the only race over 1,000km in 2025, clocking up 1,168.6km as it made its way from Vannes to Ch\u00e2tel Les Portes du Soleil. <\/p>\n<p>The race was extended from eight to nine days for the first time since its relaunch in 2022, and will remain at nine days for 2026.
