\n\tMichael Douglas<\/a> says he and Rob Reiner<\/a> often connected over their sons\u2019 troubles before the \u201cStand by Me\u201d director was killed.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs part of CBS\u2019 \u201cRob Reiner \u2013 Scenes from a Life\u201d special<\/a>, Douglas said dealing with the addiction of his own son, Cameron Douglas, helped him relate to Reiner and the problems with his son, Nick.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI also had a son who had had drug issues. I\u2019m happy to say he\u2019s overcome them and living a prosperous life,\u201d Douglas said. The two-time Oscar winner added that he and Reiner would \u201ctalk a lot about that and what you can do as a parent, what you can\u2019t do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found stabbed to death<\/a> in their home on Dec. 14. Their son, Nick, was arrested hours later and, on Tuesday afternoon, he was charged with two counts of murder<\/a> in the death of his parents. The LAPD later said in a statement, \u201cNick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Robert and Michele Reiner, was responsible for their deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDouglas called Reiner\u2019s death a \u201cterrible tragedy,\u201d later adding, \u201cKnowing with all of that going on behind the scenes, this was a man who always gave it his best.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReiner and Douglas collaborated on the 1995 political drama \u201cThe American President\u201d and the 2014 romance, \u201cAnd So It Goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDouglas\u2019 son was released from prison in 2016 after serving roughly seven years in prison from drug related charges.<\/p>\n
