President Donald Trump lashed out at both Russia and India in a Truth social post at midnight on Thursday, as he doubled down on the 25% tariffs he placed on New Delhi\u2014along with an unspecified \u201cpenalty\u201d for its continued trade with Moscow\u2014and attacked former Russian president and key Putin ally, Dmitry Medvedev, who warned that Trump\u2019s ultimatums against his country were a \u201cstep towards war.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a post on his Truth Social platform<\/a>, the president wrote: \u201cI don\u2019t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump claimed the U.S. has done \u201cvery little business with India\u201d as their Tariffs are \u201camong the highest in the World,\u201d and added: \u201cLikewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together.\u201d<\/p>\n While announcing<\/a> his plan to impose a 25% tariff on India, Trump pointed out that the country has \u201calways bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia\u201d and is the \u201clargest buyer\u201d of Russian energy after China.<\/p>\n This was the first instance of the president following through with his threat to impose \u201csecondary tariffs\u201d on Russia\u2019s key trading partners unless Moscow<\/a> agrees to end its war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n Trump, however, didn\u2019t specify what this penalty would entail.<\/p>\n What Do We Know About Trump\u2019s Deadline For Russia?<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Trump threatened to impose<\/a> 100% \u201csecondary\u201d tariffs on Russia, unless it managed to secure a deal to end the war in Ukraine in 50 days. These secondary tariffs would target countries like India and China, which are among Russia\u2019s key trading partners. However, the president revised his deadline<\/a> on Monday during his visit to Scotland and said Moscow now has 10 to 12 days to take steps towards ending its conflict with Ukraine. <\/p>\n What Has Medvedev Said About Trump\u2019s Deadline For Russia?<\/p>\n When Trump announced the first deadline, Medvedev mocked it in a post on X<\/a>, saying: \u201cTrump issued a theatrical ultimatum to the Kremlin. The world shuddered, expecting the consequences. Belligerent Europe was disappointed. Russia didn\u2019t care.\u201d After Trump shortened the deadline on Monday, Medvedev responded, tweeting<\/a>: \u201cTrump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia\u2026He should remember 2 things: 1. Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don’t go down the Sleepy Joe road!\u201d<\/p>\n What Did Trump Say About Medvedev?<\/p>\n The president had not commented on Medvedev\u2019s earlier post, but his Thursday midnight post appears to respond to the former Russian president\u2019s \u201cstep towards war\u201d remark. After pointing out that Russia and the U.S. do almost no business together, Trump said: \u201cLet\u2019s keep it that way, and tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he\u2019s still President, to watch his words.
